The invention relates to an intake pipe for the intake air of an internal combustion engine. The intake pipe comprises a shift drum which provides continuous adjustment of the intake pipe length. The intake pipe comprises a housing constructed of individual disks which are joined in a sealing manner via ring grooves. The shift drum is preferably made of regulator disks so that it can be assembled without difficulty by alternately sliding a housing disk and a regulator disk on to the drive shaft. The intake channels are sealed by means of sealing lips which are joined to the regulator disks, for example by injection, and are axially supported on annular ribs forming part of the housing disks. This makes it possible to compensate for the tolerances of all of the components. Apart form being easier to assemble, an intake pipe constructed in the above manner also has a lower weight since no inserts are required to configure and seal the individual intake channels.

Intake system for an internal combustion engine

An opposed-cylinder internal-combustion engine, includes a cylinder block and crankcase which is longitudinally divided in the center of the crankshaft bearing. A bearing support is connected with the crankcase by way of cylinder head bolts. The cylinder block and crankcase has a joint vertical junction plane with the bearing support. Both bearing support halves are, on the one hand, connected with one another by way of bearing block screws and, on the other hand, the bearing support is held by way lo of cylinder head bolts between the crankcase halves arranged at both sides of the bearing support while forming oil ducts. At the same time, cylinder heads can be fastened on the crankcase by way of the screws.

Internal combustion engine

An internal-combustion engine comprises two cylinder banks inclined with respect to a vertical line and has two overhead camshafts respectively which are driven by way of an intermediate shaft by the crankshaft. The connection between the camshafts and the intermediate shaft takes place by way of driving devices which extend in timing cases. In order to maintain consistent oil levels in the cylinder heads which fluctuate during an acceleration or a cornering, a lubricant pump is arranged on each of the cylinder heads which, on the suction side, is connected with the cylinder head and, on the delivery side, is connected with the oil pan. The lubricant pump is continuously driven by the camshaft.

For avoiding exterior, cooling-water-carrying ducts, an internal-combustion engine comprising two mutually opposite cylinder banks has integrated ducts for the feeding and removal of the cooling water to the cooling jackets and the cylinder heads.

An internal-combustion engine which has an intermediate shaft extending in parallel to the crankshaft, comprises a basin which is arranged between the shafts and which guides lubricating oil released by the crankshaft drive into an oil sump. This basin has struts which project downwardly away and which surround the intermediate shaft in such a manner that it is secured against the admission of lubricating oil of the crankshaft drive. As a result, this lubricating oil arrives in an oil tank in a largely unfoamed state.

A cylinder head is composed of a basic housing resting on a cylinder block, said housing having gas exchange channels and valves, a bearing housing supporting camshafts and cup tappets, and a cylinder head cover. This cover is made integral with the upper parts of the camshaft bearings. The arrangement has a single separating plane, at which both the basic housing with elevated outside walls and the bearing housing and the cylinder head cover abut. This arrangement has high rigidity and is easy to assemble.

A cylinder head of an internal-combustion engine has three intake valves on one side of a longitudinal center plane and has two exhaust valves on the other side. The intake valves are arranged in a circumferential direction of a cylinder of the internal-combustion engine, and a first intake valve arranged close to the edge of a combustion chamber is permanently driven by a camshaft by means of a space-saving actuating lever. The other intake valves are connected successively or isochronously according to the requirements. When the load is low, a fuel-saying load movement is achieved by the tangential inflow through the first intake valve, while, when the load requirements are higher, an optimized mixture flow rate is possible via the connected valves.

An internal combustion engine with two rows of cylinders with a V-angle of 180 degrees has a crankshaft provided with a flywheel, said crankshaft having a drive for a parallel intermediate shaft adjacent to the flywheel. One camshaft of each row of cylinders is driven respectively from the two ends of this intermediate shaft. The arrangement of the drive for the intermediate shaft near the flywheel avoids the transmission of rotary oscillations from the crankshaft to the intermediate shaft.

An arrangement for the actuation of a gas-exchange disk valve longitudinally guided in the cylinder head of a reciprocating piston which is opened and closed against spring force by two alternately periodically energized electromagnets. An armature coaxial to the disk valve together with an armature disk secured at the same is thereby moved to and fro and stresses a cylindrical torsion rod spring clamped-in at the cylinder head by way of a valve lever pivotally connected at the armature. For compensating manufacturing tolerances and thermal expansion, a magnetizable entrainment disk is arranged in the armature disk with axial play which is threadably connected with the stem end of the disk valve and effects the tight closing thereof.

Arrangement for the actuation of a gas-exchange disk valve

An internal combustion engine equipped with at least one exhaust gas turbocharger whose compressor is connected by way of a charging pressure line to a suction manifold of the engine and whose turbine is inserted into an exhaust gas line coming from an exhaust gas manifold. A controllable blow-off valve (waste gate) is installed into a by-pass line coming from the exhaust gas line and by-passing the turbine while the compressor is adapted to be short-circuited by way of a vent valve. During the transition of the internal combustion engine into the coasting operation, the blow-off valve is activated into the closed condition for at least a limited time span. A loss of exhaust gas energy during a shifting operation is avoided thereby so that the internal combustion engine accelerates more rapidly after termination of the shifting operation.

A fuel-exchange poppet valve of a reciprocating internal-combustion engine is actuated by two electromagnets that, in an alternating way, are energized periodically to attract an armature disk arranged between them. The armature disk is fastened at an armature that is coupled to a one-armed fuel-exchange poppet valve control lever. The control lever is pivotally moved back and forth against the spring tension of a torsional bar spring to open and close a poppet valve.
