A method and a device are for cooling the inflow area of the shaft of a steam turbine. According to the method and device, a partial mass flow m is branched off upstream of a feed device that supplies the steam to the team turbine. The partial mass flow is cooled and then guided to the feed device, from where it is supplied to the steam turbine together with the remaining mass flow m . The method and device allow for a simplified control and design of the turbine.

A method and a device for determining an enthalpy of wet steam, in particular of wet steam at an outlet of a steam turbine. A part volume flow of the wet steam is mixed with a reference gas to form a mixture, so that the liquid constituents of the part volume flow evaporate completely. An enthalpy of the reference gas and an enthalpy of the mixture is then determined by measured physical variables and an enthalpy of the wet steam is calculated from these enthalpies.

The steam turbine has an interior chamber through which an action steam can flow. The action steam is condensed in a condenser. The condenser is connected to the interior via a cooling-steam conduit. The cooling-steam conduit can be shut off by means of a shut-off member which opens as a function of the differential steam pressure between the condenser and the interior. The method of cooling the steam turbine is effected by cooling the steam turbine with steam from the condenser in the ventilation mode of the turbine.
