Printed matter is distributed between a source location and a plurality of geographically separate target locations by providing at each of the target locations a location transmitter capable of emitting a unique identifying code and packing at the source location individual orders of the printed matter for the target locations into respective containers and providing each of the containers with a container transmitter capable of generating a unique identifying code. The packed containers for a plurality of the target locations are loaded onto a truck and the codes of the containers being loaded are recorded in a respective portable device on each truck along with the respective target locations. The device continuously electronically determines the position of the truck and guides the loaded truck along a route past the respective plurality of target locations in accordance with the electronically determined truck position, typically by providing optical or audible instructions for the driver. When the truck reaches each target location the respective target-location transmitter is read and an acoustic or optical output is generated by the device indicating which of the containers is to be unloaded thereat. Then at each target location any container whose code is associated with the respective target location is unloaded.

System for controlling delivery and return of printed matter

A system for conveying stacks of objects has a pair of elongated arrays of idler rollers extending longitudinally parallel next to each other, defining a central longitudinally extending and upwardly open gap, defining a generally horizontal support plane extending longitudinally through a plurality of stations so that the stacks of objects can be supported on the rollers in the stations, and each formed by a plurality of rollers rotatable about parallel axes extending perpendicular to the gap. A flexible conveyor belt has a reach extending longitudinally along the gap between the arrays of rollers and a guide engaging the reach normally holds the reach below the plane. Respective actuators at the stations engage underneath the reach at the respective stations and raise the reach only at the respective stations through the gap and above the plane. A drive connected to the belt generally continuously advances the reach in a downstream longitudinal direction so that when the actuator of one of the stations lifts the belt at the one station any stack in the one station will be engaged by the belt and displaced downstream.

Conveying system for stacked articles

A measuring plate with at least one strain gauge and upon which a wheel of a vehicle can rest to generate a signal which is used to indicate or register the wheel load or axle load of the road vehicle, is received in a frame and has edges which extend transversely of the direction of vehicle travel. According to the invention, these edges are bevelled or partly cut away so as to be overhung by complementarily shaped sides of the frame. These edges also are provided, along the bottom of the plate, with elastic bars or ribs which rest upon and support the center of the plate above a support plate or body disposed below the measuring plate. The plate can have these edges covered with an elastic material, especially a clear elastomer or the entire measuring plate can be sheathed in the elastomer.
