A motor vehicle roof including a front roof opening and a rear roof opening, a movable front cover for covering the front roof opening, the movable front cover being movably guided on a frame member and substantially transparent with a nonviewing area and a viewing area to allow viewing of objects through the front cover, a stationary rear cover for covering the rear roof opening, the stationary rear roof cover being supported on the frame and substantially transparent with a nonviewing area and a viewing area to allow viewing of objects through the stationary rear cover, and solar cells provided proximate to at least one of the nonviewing area of the movable front cover and the nonviewing area of the stationary rear cover.

Motor vehicle roof

A cover unit for a vehicle roof, which can be opened, has a cover plate, a reinforcing frame arranged therebelow, and a seal-receiving frame, injection molded around the outer periphery of the cover plate, the seal-receiving frame having an encircling groove for receiving a peripheral seal at its outer periphery. In a process for the manufacture of a such cover, an inwardly directed part of the peripheral seal directly serves as a core which forms the seal-receiving groove by which it is detachably interlocked with the seal-receiving frame.

Process for manufacture of a cover for a vehicle roof

A cover of an openable motor vehicle roof includes a cover plate which is surrounded by a plastic frame formed by foaming or injection, and which connects at least one attachment part to the cover plate. The plastic frame includes at least one sensor element which is located on one wall of the attachment part and which signals pinching of a body part or article when the closes on an object by partial deformation of the plastic frame.

The invention relates to a sliding and lifting roof for motor vehicles with a cover (1) which selectively closes or at least partially exposes a roof opening (11) formed in a fixed part (8) of the vehicle roof, and with a movable gutter (4) which in the closed position of the cover engages under the rear edges of the cover (1) and a part of the fixed roof to the rear of the roof opening (11). The gutter (4) is joined by at least one elastic connection arm (5) to parts of the cover or a cover reinforcing part (3) at a distance from the rear edge (2) of the cover. In the closed position of the cover, the gutter is pressed against the underside of the cover (1) and the fixed roof part (8) by a prestressing of the connection arms (5). To ensure simple installation and provide reliable operation of the gutter (4), the connection arms (5) are made of an elastically flexible construction and are held by form-fit on the cover parts or cover reinforcing part (3).

Motor vehicle sliding roof

A vehicle roof (1) having a cover (3) which, selectively, can close or at least partially expose a roof opening (2). A liner (6) which is made of a waterproof transparent material is slidably arranged below the cover (3). Contrary to a known design, in which the transparent liner, in combination with an opaque cover, does offer a variety of options regarding light transmission of the entire vehicle roof, the vehicle roof of the present invention provides an additional ventilation possibility, in that the liner (6) has ventilation openings (21) which are designed to prevent water penetration. The ventilation openings, preferably, have rearward facing slots (23) and can selectively be exposed or closed by way of movable parts (24).

Vehicle roof

Vehicle roof with a series of plates for selectively closing and at least partially opening a roof opening in a fixed roof surface. The plates abut one another in the closed position and form a flat interlocking system of plates within which each plate is guided on each side on two guide points, that are spaced from each other in a sliding direction, along a guiding device that is connected with the fixed roof surface so that, when the plates are displaced, the flat interlocking system of plates performs a translatory movement during which the interlocking system is separated in a plate-by-plate manner when the roof is opened and is reestablished when the roof is closed. At least the forward guide points of the plates interact with the same guideway, and both guide points of the plates are maintained in engagement with the guiding devices over their entire path of displacement. The guiding devices are constructed and arranged with respect to the fixed roof surface so that the plates, when the roof is opened, dip under the fixed roof part at a rear end of the roof opening.

The invention relates to a vehicle roof having a light-transmissive cover, which has at least one outside panel, and having a device for varying the light-transmissibility of the cover. A light-transmissive cover of flat construction and easy actuation, whose light transmissibility can be steplessly regulated over a wide range, is achieved by integrating a device of darkening elements into a transparent cover, which is of extremely flat construction, is lightweight, mechanically easy to activate, and has a short regulating distance. Especially advantageous is a device whose darkening elements are formed by two superposed polarization films that are movable relative to each other. Such a configuration facilitates a particularly flat construction, and the light transmissibility of the cover is practically steplessly adjustable in a range of 0%-100%.

A process for the production of a cover unit with a seal for vehicle roofs in which a cover part, such as a glass cover part, a cover support and a profile part, having a replacement seal receptacle are inserted in a mold having an upper part and a lower part. The profile part is spaced from the cover part and the support leaving edge gaps which are filled by introducing an elastomer therein to connect this assembly to a cover unit. The profile part is attached and aligned, in a preferred embodiment, by attaching projections on the upper part and/or lower part of the mold depending on its position in the production of the cover unit. A peripheral seal can be molded on the profile part. This peripheral seal can be removed from the profile part, so that the seal receptacle of the profile part can be used to insert a replacement seal. Also, a resulting cover unit for vehicle roofs comprises a cover part, a cover support and a profile part with a replacement seal receptacle and an, optionally, molded-on peripheral seal. The cover part and cover support are connected to the profile part by an elastomer to form a cover unit.

Process for the production of a cover unit with a seal for vehicle roofs

Vehicle roof having a cover which, in a closed position, covers a roof opening in a fixed roof surface, and which can be extended above a fixed roof surface by pivotal movement about a pivotal axis which extends between its lateral edges. Below the cover, a cover liner is provided which, during upward extension of the cover, is bent about a center axis which is parallel to the pivotal axis of the cover. The liner, in a transversely extending center area, is provided with at least one cutout that extends transversely across a main portion of the liner and which reaches downwardly from the upper side of the liner, through a portion of the thickness of the liner sufficient to create a flexible hinge-like portion, thus permitting the liner to bend when the cover is extended. When the liner is in its unbent condition, the cutout has a cross-sectional shape that widens upwardly.

A frame arrangement for a vehicle roof that has a roof opening that is closable by a displaceable cover panel that, along with driving and guiding components thereof, is supported on a frame bounding the roof opening which has only the function of a support, i.e., does not form a necessary part of a fully functional installation unit, comprising a guide insert and a covering. The guide insert and the covering form the tracks for a slidable guide element and the cable guide channels for actuating cables, which interact with an appropriately suitable actuation device for displacing the cover panel. The guide insert can be made of plastic or metal, and the covering is advantageously divided into a front side section and side sections. These sections of the covering can be uniformly produced of plastic or metal or individual sections can be produced of plastic and others, in turn, of metal. Also, the guide insert as well as the covering can be produced entirely of plastic. Further, the guide insert can also form a guide for a sliding internal headliner panel.

Frame arrangement for a vehicle roof

A frame arrangement for a vehicle roof of the type having a roof opening which can be closed and selectively at least partially opened by displacement of a cover panel by actuating cables, the cover being guided by guide element tracks on the side parts of a support frame. According to the invention, the frame arrangement is provided with a guide part, which is set on the frame and which contains guide channels for the actuating cables and forms an upper sliding surface of the lateral tracks for the guide element. Advantageously, the guide part is constructed of a U shape that extends over the side parts and the front side of the frame. Preferably, this guide part is produced of plastic, while the frame consists of a sheet metal part.

A vehicle roof with a roof opening is provided in a fixed roof area that can be closed by a closure panel, which is slidable on tracks and/or may also be raised at its rearward edge, wherein an actuating device, provided to drive the closure panel, and the tracks for the closure panel are unified into an installation unit attached to the fixed roof area bordering the roof opening. The installation unit can be attached directly to the roof opening by connecting brackets that may be attachment flanges or the like, or by a frame, mounted to or formed by the fixed roof area bordering the perimeter of the roof opening. A water drainage device may be provided that is formed from the fixed interior headliner or may be a separate water-collecting basin carried by the interior headliner. If a slidable interior headliner is provided, the tracks can be formed directly on the fixed interior headliner or may be constructed on the water-collecting basin, if such a basin is provided. Vertical adjustment devices are provided to adjust the height of the installation unit relative to the fixed roof area and, in certain cases, the slidable interior headliner as well.

A vehicle roof that has an aperture in a fixed roof area which can be opened and closed by a closure panel, and in which a fixed interior headliner covers the inside of the fixed vehicle roof, while a slidable interior headliner is provided that covers the underside of the closure panel. The guides for the slidable interior headliner may be provided as a separate part mounted on the fixed interior headliner or may be integrally formed as a portion of the fixed interior headliner. When the vehicle roof has a water drainage device, the guides for the slidable interior headliner can be provided on a water-collecting basin serving as a water drainage device. The guides for the slidable interior headliner function also as a water retaining partition for the water drainage device.

Preassembled installation unit for sliding and lifting roofs of motor vehicles of the type wherein a fixed roof surface has a roof opening that is openable and closable by a cover, the opening being surrounded in front and on the sides by a frame, which extends behind the roof opening under the fixed roof surface. The installation unit is provided with track forming side guide rails along which front and rear sliders can move, side cover supports which are connected to the front sliders and, by pivoting elements, to the rear sliders, drive cables that engage the rear sliders and can be brought to engage a drive, and guide channels for the drive cables which, in area of the front edge of the roof opening, are formed by guide pipes and on the sides, by cable channels. The frame is a part of the installation unit. The guide rails are integrated with the tracks and cable channels in the side frame parts. The guide pipes are connected to the front area of the frame. The guide rails and cable channels are covered by cover rails incorporating forward and lateral stops to enable performance testing of the unit without the cover or a dummy cover.

Preassembled installation unit for sliding and lifting roofs of motor

Wind deflector assembly for vehicles with a sliding or sliding-lifting roof with a wind deflector blade which is connected, by way of at least one hinge, with a carrier part of a roof installation unit and which is swivelable around an axis of the hinge. The hinge has a bearing block attached releasably to the carrier part. The carrier part is provided with guides into which guide parts of the bearing block may be slid. At least one stop is provided for at least a temporary fixation of the bearing block, slid into the guides, with reference to the carrier part. An installation unit equipped with the deflector assembly may be pre-assembled and operationally tested prior to attachment of the unit to the vehicle roof, and can be installed in the vehicle without requiring steps necessitating re-assembly or re-alignment of the deflector assembly.
