The invention relates to a method for measuring and calculating geometric parameters of the wheels of a wheelset for rail vehicles, wherein the wheelset to be evaluated is rotatably mounted in a wheelset machine tool or in a wheelset diagnostic system and wherein measured values for profile measurement with respect to profile wear to be detected are determined during rotational motion of said wheelset. The problem addressed by the invention is to expand already available measuring methods on known wheelset machine tools and wheelset diagnostic systems in such a way that further geometric parameters can be detected and evaluated. This problem is solved in that methods for measuring and calculating the equivalent conicity and the radial run-out property of a wheelset are integrated as new measurement functions, wherein solution approaches are proposed for these additional methods.

Method for measuring and calculating geometric parameters of the wheels of a wheelset for rail vehicles

The invention relates to a method for reprofiling wheelsets () rotatably mounted in axle bearing housings () on rail vehicles on underfloor wheelset lathes () equipped with machining tools, a machine control for the machining tools, drive rollers (), axial guide rollers (), measuring rollers () as well as clamping devices () to engage the axle bearing housings (). The method is characterised in that the wheelset () is lifted off the rail using the drive rollers (), weighing it in the process, the axle bearing housings () are fixed between the drive rollers () and the clamping devices (), an axial guide roller () is adjusted to touch the inner side () of each of the two wheels () of the wheelset () and fixed in this position, an additional force () is applied to the drive rollers (), that the actual diameter () and the wear profile of each wheel () is determined by means of a measuring roller (), that the smaller actual diameter is determined based on the measurement results and, it having been modified by a specified machining allowance, entered as the nominal diameter () into the machine control for the machining tools.

Method for reprofiling wheelsets on underfloor wheel lathes

The invention relates to a flexible production line for machining undulated workpieces arranged individually or in groups on a pallet, in a plurality of successive operations (OP-, OP-) carried out along from pallet stores. A process for measuring the wheel profiles of wheels of wheelsets in which the wheelsets are moved past a series of a least twenty-six separate sensors while being rotated and moved at specified speeds. The wheelsets are impinged with a multiplicity of laser beams whose reflections are measured by the sensors, thereby indicating various wheel profile properties. In one embodiment, the wheelsets are rotated at a speed of less than 75 revolutions per minute while being moved at a speed of less than 6 miles per hour. In another embodiment, the wheelsets are rotated at a speed of greater than 400 revolutions per minute while being moved at a speed of greater than 45 miles per hour. In both embodiments, the wheelsets are moved past the sensors in a period of less than about 20 seconds.

A process for accurately and automatically measuring the properties of wheelset profiles while the wheelsets are in normal operation. In the first step of the process, the wheelset is rotated at a speed of at least 400 revolutions per minute while moved at a speed of at least 45 miles per hour, and a laser detection system is used to measure the profile of both wheels of the wheelset. In the second step of the process, the wheelset is rotated at a speed of less than 75 revolutions per minute while moved at a speed of less 6 miles per hour while its wheel profile properties are evaluated by a laser detection system.

A technique for aligning a wheelset using a wheelset truing machine is disclosed. Using the technique, the wheelset may be aligned by roughly aligning the wheelset truing machine, placing each wheel of the wheelset on at least one roller, determining the distance of tread points on each wheel on the rollers relative to the center of revolution of each wheel by forming measurements and calculations, and coinciding the center of revolution of each wheel with the corresponding setpoint of the machine center. The measurement is taken of the periphery and of the concentricity error and a distance of the tread points determined by the triangulation principle. The technique includes a wheelset aligning device having a locating fixture for locating the wheelset, a measuring device including a-peripheral measuring instrument and a concentricity error measuring instrument, at least two rollers disposed to be swiveled in a x-y plane and to be traversed in a direction perpendicular to the x-y plane on the wheel side of the wheelset to evaluate a respective wheel measurement in the x-y plane by interacting with the wheel thus allowing for coincidence between the respective center of revolution of the wheel and the respective setpoint of the machine center.
