A beverage making device comprising a brewing chamber configured to brew a beverage, the device comprising: a valve assembly comprising: a housing including an inlet for receiving pressurized water into the housing, a two way passage coupling the housing to the brewing chamber, an outlet configured to remove the brewed beverage from the housing, and a pressure release valve configured to close the outlet to send the pressurized water out of the two way passage to the brewing chamber when the pressurized water is supplied to the inlet, and close the inlet to receive a brewed beverage from the brewing through the two way passage when the pressurized water is not provided to the inlet.

A beverage making device comprising a brewing chamber for enclosing a pad containing a substance from which the beverage is brewed. A water supply conduit is present between pumping means and the brewing chamber. The brewing chamber has an outlet having an orifice through which the brewed beverage can leave the brewing chamber. A portion of the wall of the brewing chamber is stationary and the other portion of the wall can move away from the stationary part in order to open the brewing chamber. Means () are present for releasing pressure from the brewing chamber after the water supply to the brewing chamber has been terminated.

A beverage device for making a beverage with a foam layer on top includes a foaming device for generating foam from the beverage. The foaming device includes at least one inlet opening for receiving beverage under pressure and at least one outlet opening for the beverage with the foam. To obtain a fine and stable foam layer on the beverage, the foaming device generates a spray of beverage, and includes a collision surface which, in use, is hit by the beverage spray thus generating the foam.

A brewing receptacle for an apparatus for brewing a beverage such as coffee. The receptacle has a brewing chamber () having an entry passage and an exit passage for displacing water through the chamber () for brewing the beverage, a bottom () for supporting the particles () (), and a dischargeopening () in the bottom () for discharging beverage liquid through the bottom (). At least the bottom () is invertible between a first and a second operative position. The brewing chamber () has a first volume and a first shape when the bottom () is in said first position and at least a second volume or a second shape of the brewing chamber in said second position is different from the first volume or shape, respectively.

A beverage device for making a beverage with a foam layer on top, comprising foaming means for generating foam from said beverage, said foaming means comprising at least one inlet opening () for receiving beverage under pressure and at least one outlet opening () for the beverage with the foam. To obtain a fine and stable foam layer on the beverage, the beverage device is characterized in that the foaming means comprises means for generating a spray () of beverage, and said foaming means further comprises a collision surface () which, in use, is hit by said spray () of beverage, thereby generating foam.

Water flow heater with a first heater element ( ) for supplying a fixed power, a second, controllable heater element ( ), a temperature sensor ( ) for measuring the temperature of heated water, and a control unit ( ) for controlling the heat supply from the second heater element ( ) in dependence on a temperature detected by the temperature sensor ( ). A water flowrate lying within a predetermined range is safeguarded in that a pump ( ) is provided for generating a water flow through a channel ( ), and the control unit is designed so as to activate the heater elements ( ) in dependence on activation of the pump ( ). As a result, the first heater element ( ) of fixed power can have a comparatively high power rating without the risk of water being too strongly heated thereby.
