A device and appertaining method for picking up devices in a component placement device permits even very small components and even a first component of a new belt to be picked up by scanning the structural features of the belt directly in the proximity of the components. The positional tolerances can be disregarded so that even the first component of a new belt can be reliably detected by the pick-up tool.

Method for determining pick-up positions of electronic components

In a method and device for detecting the position of components, the relative position of terminals and/or edges of components relative to a transport device is obtained using a camera with an image evaluation unit connected downstream that obtains an image containing the terminals together with a position marking securely connected to the transport device. The position marking is itself located in the immediate vicinity of the terminals or is imaged at such a location via an optical imaging element. A more precise position detection is assured. A fast position detection is also realized given a moving transport device and a short exposure time for the imaging by the camera.

The position recognition of components placed on substrates has hitherto ensued visually outside the automatic equipping unit. This is complicated and the components lying at the bottom cannot be seen given placement of a number of components above one another. In the method disclosed herein, the position of the placed components in the automatic equipping unit is identified shortly after the actual placement process with a position sensor located in the automatic equipping unit. As a result, errors are recognized early and the automatic equipping unit can therefore be more easily adjusted in view of the positional precision. A camera with a following image evaluation unit is employed as the position sensor.

For the horizontal illumination, a light deflection element is employed wherein light is emitted by a light source into the light deflection element, is reflected at a first outer wall of the light deflection element, and is directed into an opening of the light deflection element in which the component is disposed.

An mounting apparatus for mounting an electrical component onto a substrate of an electrical assembly. The mounting apparatus employs a compensating element to facilitate the component mounting operation. The compensating element includes a spring member and a damping member. The spring member applies an optimal contact pressure for securely mounting said component without damaging the component. The damping element acts to damp the spring member during so as to effectively reduce a spring force that acts on the mounting apparatus during the component delivery stage.

An entire contact row of an SMD component is illuminated by a light source direction in the direction of the contact row, and a shadow of the entire contact row is directed by a linear sensor. A shift of the contact row perpendicular to a contact surface formed by the contact row effects a shift of the position of the shadow on the linear sensor and also effects a modification of the expanse of the shadow. By identifying the minimum expanse of the shadow, a criterion for the co-planarity of the contact row derives from the minimum expanse itself and an indicator about the slanting attitude of the component derives from the position having the minimum expanse.

The ball member has a surface surrounding a passageway forming a suction surface for engaging the component. The passageway of the ball member is in communication with a passageway of the base member which, in turn, is in communication with the pipette so that a suction is applied therebetween and the ball member is movable to provide a tilting of the suction surface until a component is engaged thereon, at which time atmospheric pressure acting on the ball member will force the ball member into the socket to hold the member in its selected position.
