The present invention relates to an adhesive composition comprising, among others, (i) microfibrillated cellulose and (ii) a metal in oxidation state of II or greater. The present invention further relates to uses of such an adhesive composition and to products prepared with such an adhesive composition. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a process for making corrugated paperboards or cardboards, or solid paperboards or cardboards by using such an adhesive composition.

The present invention relates to a process and a system for the at least partial removal or exchange of solvent from/in a suspension comprising microfibrillated cellulose (MFC), specifically the at least partial removal of solvent from a suspension comprising microfibrillated cellulose having a comparatively high solvent (water) content to a relatively lower solvent content. Accordingly, the solids content of the microfibrillated cellulose increases during the the step of at least partial removal of solvent from a suspension comprising process, in particular from a first solids content in the range of from 0.1% weight by weight ('w/w') to 6% w/w, preferably 1% weight by weight (“w/w”) to 5% w/w, up to a second solids content of above 5% w/w, preferably to a solids content of from above 5% w/w-50% w/w, further preferably to a solids content of from above 5% w/w-25% w/w. In a separate aspect, a solvent exchange step after the at least partial removal of a first solvent is also part of the present invention.

Process and system for increasing the solids content of microfibrillated cellulose

The present invention relates a process and a system for the point-of-use dilution of microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) from a higher solids content to a lower solids content, for example from a solids content in the range of 5% weight by weight ('w/w')-50% w/w, preferably 5% w/w-30% w/w, further preferably 5% w/w-15% w/w, down to a solids content of below 7% w/w, preferably below 5% w/w, preferably to a solids content of 0.01% w/w-5% w/w, further preferably to a solids content of 0.1% w/w-3% w/w. The process at least comprises the following steps: (i) providing microfibrillated cellulose in a solvent, wherein the solids content is in the range of 5% weight by weight (“w/w”)-50% w/w, preferably 5% w/w-30% w/w, further preferably 5 w/w-15% w/w; (ii) subjecting said microfibrillated cellulose from step (i) to a dilution step in a rotor-stator mixer; (iii) simultaneously to step (ii): injecting solvent into the rotor-stator mixer, or into a volume segment upstream of the rotor-stator mixer, in order to lower the solids content of the microfibrillated cellulose in the rotor-stator mixer.

The present invention relates to a system for the compact packaging of microfibrillated cellulose, which comprises a packaging, which comprises at least one polymer material. Said packaging encompasses a content that essentially consists of microfibrillated cellulose ('MFC') that is present as a suspension in a solvent. The resulting system is of an essentially round or essentially rectangular or oval outer circumference, as defined by the dimensions of the packaging once fully filled out by the content. The system of the invention has the advantage, among others, to provide a solid and firm essentially round packaging shape. The resulting units of packaged MFC can be easily stacked on a pallet. The packaging maintains the water retention capacity of the suspension (paste). The present invention also relates to a process for making such a system.

The present invention relates to microfibrillated cellulose ('MFC'), in particular to microfibrillated cellulose, which is morphologically different from conventional MFC known in the art and/or which provides improved water retention properties and/or improved rheological properties, in particular increased zero shear viscosity, &#x3b7;, (also known as: 'viscosity at rest', i.e. viscosity in the absence of shear forces), in solution, in particular in polyethylene glycol (PEG) as solvent, vis-a-vis conventional MFC as known in the art.
