The present invention relates to a machine tool for machining of workpieces, having a workpiece support for mounting the workpiece, a tool holder, which can be moved at least along one axis, for holding a tool for machining the workpiece, and workpiece holding units for fixing the workpiece during the machining, the workpiece holding units being arranged outside the workpiece support surface of the workpiece support, which is covered by the workpiece in the mounted state, and each having a holding element for fixing the workpiece. In order that also workpieces of greater diameter can be machined, the machine tool otherwise being of the same dimensions, it is provided according to the invention that the holding elements can each be moved, substantially parallel to the workpiece support surface, in the direction of the workpiece, in particular in the direction of a central workpiece axis, which runs perpendicular to the workpiece support surface, for the purpose of centering and fixing the workpiece. The holding elements comprise a clamping surface that is arranged obliquely in relation to the workpiece support surface and that is, in the mounted state, pressed against the workpiece for fixing and centering the workpiece to be machined, thereby exerting a pressure both in the direction of the workpiece support surface and in the direction of the central workpiece axis.

A spindle unit has a working spindle, which is mounted, so as to be rotatable about its longitudinal axis, in its own bearing housing and in which there is provided a receiver for tools for machining workpieces. Via a repositioning unit, the working spindle is repositioned automatically and controllably in relation to the bearing housing when in operation (FIG.).

A machine tool has a work space () in which a device () for accommodating workpieces () to be machined is arranged. The machine tool further has a work spindle () for machining the workpieces () and a slide () which carries the work spindle () and is traversable in a longitudinal direction relative to the device (), a respective cover (), variable in length in the longitudinal direction (x), for the work space () being provided on the slide () on each of its sides, said cover () being connected with its respective first end to the slide () and with its respective second end to a side wall () of the work space (). Each cover () variable in length has a respective rear wall () and a respective top (), whereby the top () is connected to the rear wall () in a detachable, push-in, manner. A further flexible cover () is arranged in front of the slide () to protect the work space () at the bottom. The flexible cover () is variable in a direction (y) orthogonal to the longitudinal direction (x) and is partly designed as a link apron ().

A machine tool center () displays at least one machine tool () which has a working area () accessible through an operator door () to process workpieces (). Furthermore, a loading/unloading station () for the workpieces () and a loading device () which transports the workpieces () between the loading/unloading station () and the respective machine tool () and changes these at the machine tool () are also provided. In the new machine tool center () the loading device () is arranged below the working space () of the machine tool () (FIG.).

A machine tool comprising at least one machining unit having at least one work spindle for accommodating tools in order to machine workpieces in a working area is provided with a first and a second transport device, by which workpieces are transported between the working area and a loading/unloading station. A second machining unit is arranged laterally next to the first machining unit in such a way that, alternating with the first machining unit, it can reach the workpieces in the working area from the same direction.

A machine tool is provided with at least one tool spindle which is travelling in a work space () and on which a tool receptacle for clamping tools is provided. The machine tool also contains a magazine for tools which can be introduced into the tool receptacle in the tool spindle, the magazine having a transport chain which can be moved back and forth in a transport direction and on which carriers are arranged for receiving tools. The carriers extend from the transport chain essentially transversely to the transport direction. At least one carrier has at least two storage spaces for tools.

In the case of a machine tool which comprises at least one working spindle with a tool-holding fixture for tool holders carrying tools, and a tool changer with a gripper for the tool holders in order to transfer the tool holders between their magazine position, which is spaced apart from the tool-holding fixture, and their working position in the tool-holding fixture, a clamping system with a clamping apparatus by means of which a tool holder inserted into the tool-holding fixture is fixed is arranged in the working spindle, the clamping system additionally comprising a retaining apparatus for a tool holder situated in the tool-holding fixture. In the case of a method carried out on this machine tool, the clamping system carries out a retaining operation which temporally precedes the clamping operation in order to grasp the tool holder inserted into the tool-holding fixture before the clamping apparatus fixes the tool holder. Furthermore, an unblocking operation which temporally follows the release operation is carried out in order, after the release of the clamping apparatus, still to retain the tool holder in the tool-holding fixture until it is ejected.

A carrier for tool holders of a machine tool has at least one movable jaw which can be pivoted about a pivot axis that runs transversely with respect to a longitudinal axis of said tool holders. Said movable jaw can be pivoted between an expanded position and a closed position in which it grasps in a form-fitting manner a tool holder which is inserted into said carrier.

A machine tool has at least one working spindle, in which a tool receptacle for tool holders is provided. Furthermore, there is a tool-changing arm with a gripper, for a tool holder in order to transfer this tool holder between its magazine position, which is spaced apart from the tool receptacle, and its working position, in which the tool holder can be clamped into the tool receptacle. Orientation means are provided between the gripper and the tool holder supported by it and secure the tool holder in a nonrotatable manner on the gripper at least during its transfer between the magazine position and the working position and release it after it has been clamped into the tool receptacle, with the result that the tool holder can be rotated in relation to the gripper.

In a machine tool () with a machine base (), a working area (), in which workpieces () are machined, and a device (), which receives chips () formed during machining of the workpieces () from the working area () and conveys them onward, at least one tunnel () provided for receiving one end () of a chip conveyor () is provided in the machine base (), which tunnel extends at least to below the device () and is there of upwardly open () design.

A machine tool has a working spindle in which a tool receptacle for tool holders is provided. Furthermore, there is at least one tool-changing arm with a gripper in which a tool holder is held in a peripheral alignment with respect to the gripper in order to transfer this tool holder between its magazine position, which is spaced apart from the tool receptacle, and its working position, in which the tool holder can be clamped into the tool receptacle. A positioning indicator is provided for the peripheral alignment of the tool holder, the indicator indicating a misalignment between the tool holder and gripper.

A machine tool has a workpiece table for fixing workpieces to be machined and a tool spindle for receiving in a fixture the tools used for machining the workpieces. The machine tool works with an overhead tool pointing upwards in the operating condition.

A machine tool has a vertical-axis tool spindle that receives a tool, and a workpiece table on whose upper side is arranged a fixture for clamping in a workpiece. The tool spindle and workpiece table are displaceable relative to one another in a working region in which the workpiece is arranged. The working region extends at least partially, in a direction transverse to the spindle axis, outside the workpiece table; the fixture projects in that direction beyond the table, holds the workpiece there, and is open at the bottom so that chips that are produced can freely fall downward in the direction of the spindle axis.

A machining center has a number of machine tools which each have a working space for machining workpieces, a clamping station in which workpieces to be machined are clamped into workpiece holders, and a loading device,which transports the workpiece holders between the clamping station and the working space of at least one machine tool, and in order to transport the workpiece holder has a pivot arm,which is swung in as the loading device,moves, and which for workpiece changing is pivoted at least partially about a pivot axis,into the working space or to the clamping station. The workpiece holder has a fixture,for positionally accurate receiving of a workpiece, which has at its two end faces holding parts,via which it is held in the clamping station and in the working space. A machine tool center (10) displays at least one machine tool (11, 12, 13) which has a working area (17) accessible through an operator door (16) to process workpieces (21). Furthermore, a loading/unloading station (14) for the workpieces (21) and a loading device (22) which transports the workpieces (21) between the loading/unloading station (14) and the respective machine tool (11, 12, 13) and changes these at the machine tool (11, 12, 13) are also provided. In the new machine tool center (10) the loading device (22) is arranged below the working space (17) of the machine tool (11, 12, 13) (FIG. 1).
