A method of controlling inlet valves and exhaust valves of a cylinder of an internal combustion engine to obtain an engine braking effect is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of preventing at least one exhaust valve of the cylinder from closing completely during a plurality of successive intake, compression, expansion, and exhaust strokes of the cylinder, phase shifting control of at least one exhaust valve and regulating the amount of air being pumped through the cylinder by phase shifting control of at least one inlet valve of the cylinder. The present disclosure further relates to a computer program, a computer-readable medium, a control arrangement, an internal combustion engine, and a vehicle comprising an internal combustion engine.

A control device and method for controlling a compression release brake arrangement is provided. The compression release brake arrangement comprises an exhaust valve actuator assembly, a first actuator valve and a second actuator valve. The method comprises controlling the first and second actuator valves to a first state in which one of the actuator valves is open and the other one is closed. The disclosure further relates to a computer program, a computer readable medium, as well as to a vehicle comprising the control device.

Control device and method for controlling a compression release brake arrangement for an engine

A phase-shifting device, a so-called cam phaser, is arranged between a crankshaft and at least one camshaft to change the at least one camshaft's rotational position in relation to the crankshaft and thus push forward or defer at least one inlet valve's and/or at least one exhaust valve's opening and closing time. The phase-shifting device is connected to an accumulator that can be charged by an oil pump. The oil pressure may be increased with the help of a pressure medium controlled cylinder before or during a phase-shifting process.

Internal combustion engine

A valve drive comprising a camshaft with base shaft, a lobe pack mounted on the base shaft and comprising three cam lobes. Two actuator bodies are associated with two actuator pins each connected to a valve of a cylinder of the engine. The lobe pack is axially displaceable along the base shaft so as to for each actuator body change cam lobe aligned therewith. A middle cam lobe has a shape leaving an actuator body aligned therewith uninfluenced thereby. In a first position of the lobe pack a first of the actuator bodies is aligned with and hit and moved by a first cam lobe and the other, second actuator body is aligned with the middle cam lobe, and in a second position the second actuator body is aligned with and hit and moved by a third cam lobe and the first actuator body is aligned with the middle cam lobe.
