For the conveying and storage of radioactive materials there are needed containers which shield gamma and neutron-radiation and dissipate the heat of decay whereby there is desired a variable neutron shielding. This is obtained by a neutron shielding between the cooling fins of the container which is fixed on the cooling fins by bosses.

Shielding container having neutron shielding for the transportation

Conveying and/or storage containers for radioactive materials which emit gamma and neutron radiation consist essentially of a container body having a shielding function for gamma radiation, cooling fins and a neutron shielding arranged between the cooling fins. For the protection of the neutron shielding it is provided with a cover.

Transportation and/or storage containers for radioactive materials

Shielding containers are needed for the transportation and or storage of spent fuel elements from nuclear reactors, which containers permit ready adjustment to the transportation conditions in regard to shielding and are easy to clean and repair. This is attained by using a cooling finned jacekt as neutron shield which is constructed of several removable segments, which in each case consist of two concentric, metallic cylindrical wall sections joined together through heat conducting bars.

Shielding container for the transportation and/or for storage of spent

There is provided a cover construction for a shielding container for the transportation and storage of fuel elements essentially consisting of an inner shielding cover and an outer transportation cover flanged on the cover, the inner shielding cover consisting of a fixed cover portion and a moveable cover portion provided at the rim of the cover with claws, whereby the claws are fitted into corresponding openings of the top of the container and the connection between the fixed cover portion and the moveable cover portion takes place through a screw carried into the moveable portion and a pin fitting into the fixed portion.
