An injection molding system having a manifold nozzle connection that accommodates thermal expansion of the system. A manifold nozzle tubular connector is receivable at a first end within a manifold and at a second end within a nozzle and has a length that bridges a space between opposing surfaces of the manifold and nozzle. The first end of the tubular connector may be threadably and/or permanently attached within a manifold bore in a downstream surface of the manifold with the second end of the tubular connector being slidably received within a nozzle bore in an upstream surface of the nozzle or within a nozzle melt channel. Alternatively, the first end of the tubular connector may be slidably received within a manifold bore in the downstream surface of the manifold or within a manifold melt channel with the second end of the tubular connector being threadably and/or permanently attached within a nozzle bore in an upstream surface of the nozzle.

Manifold nozzle connection for an injection molding system

A nozzle system is provided for an injection molding machine. The nozzle system includes a nozzle tip that is removably connected to a nozzle body with a sealing and mounting sleeve element. The nozzle body includes a first connector for releasably connecting with a second connector defined on the sleeve. The sleeve element further includes an alignment bearing for engaging a bearing surface defined on the nozzle body for precisely locating the nozzle tip within the nozzle body along on a predetermined axis. Further embodiments of the invention provide a valve pin disposed in the nozzle body and nozzle tip. The valve pin includes a bearing surface for engaging a guiding surface defined on the second melt channel for aligning the end of the valve pin with a mold gate. Further embodiments also provide an integrally connected nozzle tip and sleeve element.

Injection nozzle system for an injection molding machine

An injection molding hot runner apparatus and insert assembly for use in a manifold of the apparatus. The apparatus includes a mold manifold, a cylindrical insert for redirecting melt within the mold manifold, and an expandable sleeve surrounding the insert. When the manifold, insert and sleeve are heated to an operational temperature (e.g. 300&#xb0; C.), the sleeve expands to create a fluid tight seal between the manifold and the insert. The insert assembly including the insert and sleeve is mountable in the mold manifold to redirect melt.

Insert for an injection molding apparatus

The invention relates to an injection molding apparatus including a mold block, a nozzle, a gating system and a slug heater. The mold block defines a mold cavity having a mold cavity inlet. The nozzle has a nozzle inlet. The nozzle inlet is fluidically connectable downstream from a melt source. The nozzle inlet is upstream from the mold cavity inlet. A melt flow passage extends from the nozzle inlet to the mold cavity inlet. The gating system includes a valve pin and an actuator. The valve pin is movable between an open position wherein melt flow is permitted into the mold cavity, and a closed position wherein the valve pin blocks the melt flow passage to prevent melt flow into the mold cavity. The actuator is operatively connected to the valve pin to move the valve pin between the open and closed positions. At least one of the mold block and the valve pin includes a cooling system for selectively solidifying melt to form a slug immediately upstream from the valve pin when the valve pin is in the closed position. In use the slug blocks the melt flow passage to substantially prevent melt leakage past the slug when the valve pin is positioned away from the slug.

Lateral gating injection molding apparatus

An injection molding apparatus has at least a nozzle having a nozzle body and a nozzle tip. A securing device is used to secure the nozzle tip to the nozzle body via non-metallic threads or threads having a non-metallic coating that mate with complementary threads on the nozzle body. In this example, through use of the non-metallic threads or threads having a non-metallic coating, the securing device has a longer life than conventional securing devices that were made from steel or titanium by eliminating or substantially reducing thread galling.

The present invention is directed to a nozzle for an injection molding machine. The nozzle includes a body defining a melt channel. A heater is connected to the nozzle body. A heat distributor is also connected to the nozzle body. The heat distributor is formed of a conductive material for distributing heat from the heater along the nozzle body.

An injection molding nozzle with a tip portion in the gate area of the mold that has a wear-resistant diamond-type coating. The surface of the tip melt channel that delivers melt to the gate area may also comprise a diamond-type coating. Nozzle seal surfaces in the gate area may also comprise a diamond-type coating. The enhanced harness, smoothness and thermal conductivity of these coated surfaces results in higher quality molded parts, and easier to clean molding equipment that has a longer service life.

The invention relates to an adjustment device for a valve pin on an injection molding machine, and particularly on a multi-cavity machine, having a plurality of valve pins mounted on a common yoke plate which is actuated by a common actuator. The adjustment device includes a pin holder for holding the valve pin, and a locking member. The pin holder has two threaded portions. The first threaded portion is adjustable within a threaded receiving hole in the yoke plate. The second threaded portion is received by the locking member. The locking member has a bottom shoulder which butts against the yoke plate, and retains the pin holder in place.

Valve pin adjustment device

A heater assembly for an injection molding apparatus comprises a heater sleeve having a threaded inner surface for engaging a threaded outer surface of a nozzle body of a nozzle or a threaded surface of a mold manifold. A clamping element such as a lock nut or a spring is provided adjacent the heater sleeve. The lock nut and/or the spring abuts the heater sleeve to force the threaded inner surface of the heater sleeve into contact with the threaded outer surface of the nozzle body. This removable clamped heater assembly operates regardless of the temperature of heater.

A nozzle for an injection molding apparatus is provided. The nozzle includes a nozzle body, a heater and an insert. The nozzle body defines a first melt channel therein. The first melt channel is adapted to be downstream from and in fluid communication with a melt source. The nozzle body has a downstream nozzle body end. The nozzle body is made from a nozzle body material. The heater is thermally connected to the nozzle body. The insert is positioned in the nozzle body. The insert is made of an insert material. The insert material is more thermally conductive than the nozzle body material. The insert is adapted to conduct heat from the heater towards the downstream nozzle body end.

A collar for a hot runner nozzle of an injection molding apparatus includes a generally cylindrical body having a first flange extending inwardly from a first end thereof. The first flange is provided to abut a nozzle head and at least a portion of a nozzle body of a nozzle. An alignment flange projects from an inner wall of the generally cylindrical body and is spaced from the first flange. The alignment flange contacts the nozzle body to restrict tipping of the collar relative to the nozzle during assembly of the injection molding apparatus.

Injection molding hot runner apparatus having a cooled mold core with an elongated body portion with a front portion or head. A cooling tube extends centrally in body portion of the mold core. A cooling fluid circuit extends from the open front end of the cooling tube outwardly through a number of spaced radial bores. Each radial bore connects to an L-shaped duct leading back to a cylindrical space around the cooling tube.
