A method for heating a catalytic converter includes a) switching on a compressor; b) at least partially opening an injection valve; c) setting a combustion-air/fuel ratio of λ<1 in combustion chambers; d) detecting an actual value of the oxygen content in the exhaust gas; and e) comparing the actual value with a target value, where the target value corresponds to an exhaust-gas oxygen content that would be set in a region of the catalytic converter if the combustion-air/fuel ratio in the combustion chambers is approximately λ=1, where a manipulated variable output by a controller on a basis of a deviation of the actual value from the target value is kept constant when the actual value reaches one of two limit values of a value range within which the target value is ranged, and where the two limit values deviate from the target value by approximately 3%.

Method for heating a catalytic converter

In an exhaust-gas turbine of an exhaust-gas turbo-charger including a turbine wheel which is rotatably supported in a housing and to which exhaust gas can be supplied via an inlet channel and discharged out of the exhaust-gas turbine via an outlet duct, wherein a guide vane structure and an axial slide which interacts with the latter, are disposed in the turbine inlet at the transition from the inlet channel to the turbine wheel, the guide vane structure is fixedly mounted with respect to the housing and the axial slide is arranged at the turbine outlet side and is movably supported on an outlet duct contour sleeve and provided with an axial opening for accommodating the guide vane structure, and the contour sleeve includes openings which conduct exhaust gas from the inlet channel directly to the outlet duct and which are arranged so that they are covered by the axial slide when the axial slide is moved out of its open position, the guide vane structure extending axially over the contour sleeve openings so as to impart a swirl to the exhaust gas being discharged via the contour sleeve openings when the slide member is in an open position.

In an arrangement for reducing exhaust emissions and utilizing the throttling energy of an internal combustion engine, a compressor and a generator are operatively connected to a turbine by which the intake air flow is controlled while transferring the throttling energy recuperated by the turbine to the compressor and the generator and, in the engine start-up phase, the compressor supplies fresh air to an engine air intake duct, the intake air flow volume being controlled by the energy withdrawn from the turbine via the compressor and the generator thus eliminating the need for a throttle valve in the fresh air intake line.

An exhaust gas turbocharger for an internal combustion engine includes an exhaust gas turbine in the exhaust gas system and a compressor in the intake system for producing compressed charge air. A compressor rotor is arranged in a compressor inlet channel. In order to achieve a greater range of utilization, an adjustable shutoff element is arranged in the compressor inlet channel, upstream from the compressor rotor, for variable adjustment of the effective cross-section.
