An arrangement for determining external damage to hair is given. A device comprising: a reading unit adapted to obtain optical characteristics of hair; and a processing unit adapted to receive the optical characteristics from the reading unit and to determine surface properties of the hair from the optical characteristics, wherein the processing unit implements a pattern recognition algorithm and is adapted to assign, by employing the pattern recognition algorithm, the surface properties to a predetermined damage including at least one damage type and an associated damage level and to output the damage.

Determining external hair damage

A method for determining a greyness level of a strand of hair and a system adapted to implement this method are provided. First, an image of the strand of hair representing it according to a predefined representation standard is obtained. The image comprises a portion representing the strand of hair with pixels. Then, for each pixel of the portion, a luminance value is determined. After that an amount of pixels in the portion for which the determined luminance value is above a threshold luminance value is determined. Finally, the greyness level of the strand of hair is determined by estimating a ratio of the determined amount of pixels over a total amount of pixels in the portion.

Method for determining a greyness level of a strand of hair

An arrangement for determining a degree of stretching of hair is provided. The arrangement includes a detection unit for detecting hair characteristics and an evaluation unit for evaluating the detected hair characteristics and for determining the degree of elongation of hair based on the detected hair characteristics. The detection unit contains a near-infrared sensor, and is configured to irradiate a hair sample with electromagnetic waves in the infrared range and to detect an absorbance of the hair sample in a wavelength range from about 800 to about 2500 nm. The acquisition unit is configured to generate an absorption spectrum of the hair sample in the wavelength range of from about 800 to about 2500 nm and provide it to the evaluation unit and the evaluation unit is configured to compare the generated absorption spectrum with a calibration model and to determine a degree of elongation of the hair sample.

Determination of a degree of elongation of hair using a NIR sensor

A method for determination of a cross-manufacturer hair coloration agent recommendation is provide. The method includes the allocation of a number of hair coloration agents to respectively one standard source hair color of a number of source hair colors, a coloration of hair samples with the number of hair coloration agents, a colorimetric measurement of the number of hair samples, a determination of a color difference between each of the number of colors, an allocation of each of the hair coloration agents with unknown composition to one of the hair coloration agents with known composition in such a way that the color difference is minimized, a determination of the user source hair color, a determination of the user's desired hair color, a determination of a first recommended hair coloration agent from the number of hair coloration agents of known composition and of a second recommended hair coloration agent.

Method for determining a cross-manufacturer hair dye recommendation

A method involves determining a first initial state parameter with information about prior damage to the hair and a second initial state parameter with information about a hair color. The method further involves determining the initial colour state of the hair to be dyed for the hair region and computer-assisted determination, for a particular hair dye, of a forecast hair colouring result for the hair in the hair region, taking into consideration the determined initial colour state of the hair.
