A method of facilitating access to services of an IP Multimedia Subsystem, by users groups that require alternative handling in relation to the standard handling of IP Multimedia Subsystem users. Functioning instructions are added to the user group s subscription maintained in the IP Multimedia Subsystem, instructing nodes in the IP Multimedia Subsystem to adapt their standard functioning for this specific group of users. The instructions in a subscription of a specific user group, provide a node of the IP Multimedia Subsystem that does no longer need to be specific for certain types of users, but has a standard way of operation, that is modified by instructions for dedicated operation for only that specific user group. In further aspect embodiments are disclosed providing improved solutions for known problems of IP Multimedia Subsystems making use of functioning instructions included in the subscription.

Group access to IP multimedia subsystem service

The present invention is directed to a method of setting up a call from an originating user in an internet protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS) network. The originating user provides a signalling message containing an originating identifier of the user to a first node of the network. According to the method, a first node of the network receives the signalling message. The first node performs a verification on whether the originating identifier is associated with a wildcard identifier, wherein the wildcard identifier identifies a plurality of identifiers which are entitled to using a group service. If the originating identifier is associated with a wildcard identifier, the first node forwards the wildcard identifier and the originating identifier to a further node for setting up the call.

A method and Serving Call/State Control Function (S-CSCF) for handling a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) communication within an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), wherein the communication is subject to a call-forwarding operation handled by a SIP Application Server (AS). An INVITE is received at the S-CSCF, which serves a user equipment (UE) identified by an R-URI. The S-CSCF adds a URI for the S-CSCF to the INVITE route header together with an Original Dialog Identifier (ODI) mapped to the R-URI. The S-CSCF forwards the INVITE to the AS, which changes the R-URI to a URI of a UE to which the call is to be forwarded. The AS adds a forwarding indicator to the INVITE and returns it to the S-CSCF. The S-CSCF identifies the forwarding indicator and determines the original R-URI based on the ODI received in the returned INVITE. The S-CSCF determines call restrictions and Initial Filter Criteria (IFCs) based on the original R-URI.

Call forwarding in an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS)

A method for migrating between first and second service enablers in an open service architecture includes registering a second service enabler within open service architecture framework. The properties of the registered second service enabler are compared with the properties of at least one of first service enablers which determines if the second service is backward compatible to the first service enabler. Information concerning whether the second service enabler is backward compatible with the first service enabler is then forwarded to an application using the first service. Additional information that can be sent to the application in the same message includes, e.g., the fact that the second service enabler outdates a first one, a migration strategy and references to interfaces on the second service enabler that the application can already start using.
