The present disclosure relates to derivatives of strigolactone and formulations thereof. The present disclosure also relates to methods of treating a plant to improve, for example, the yield, growth, or vigor of a plant. The disclosed strigolactone derivatives and formulations may be combined with a plant growth regulator, a fertilizer, an insecticide, an herbicide, a fungicide, a urease inhibitor, a nitrification inhibitor, and/or an excipient.

The instant description provides reporter constructs, transgenic cells, and transgenic organisms and methods for identifying agents that can regulate gene expression and improve plant performance and yield. Compounds that increase plant performance or yield are identified by contacting a test compound with a plant cell that comprises a target promoter sequence operably linked to a polynucleotide sequence encoding a DNA sequence-specific transactivator, and a reporter polynucleotide that is operably linked to a promoter sequence that is recognized by the DNA sequence-specific transactivator. The target promoter sequence can be recognized by a transcriptional regulatory polypeptide capable of modulating specific signaling pathways that enhance plant performance or yield.

Reporter constructs for compound screening

The application describes producing polynucleotide variants of the AtHB 17 clade members and introducing the mutant variants into plants to improve plant traits. The mutant polynucleotides encode polypeptides that comprise mutations in the EAR motifs.

This disclosure provides transgenic plants, including crop plants and methods for their production. The transgenic plants comprise recombinant DNA constructs for the expression of polypeptides encoded by the DNA constructs. The polypeptides are capable of conferring improved traits to the transgenic plants when expressed under the control of a tissue-enhanced promoter. This disclosure also pertains to transgenic plants and their progeny plants, wherein the transgenic or progeny plants comprise the recombinant DNA constructs and are selected for having enhanced nitrogen use efficiency and/or nitrogen uptake. Seed of the transgenic plants that can be grown into a plant that comprise the disclosed recombinant DNA constructs and exhibits having enhanced nitrogen use efficiency, and which may be selected for this trait, are also envisioned.

Water deficit-inducible promoter sequences were identified that may be used to produce transgenic plants that are more tolerant to water deficit and related hyperosmotic stresses than control plants, and yet are wild-type or nearly wild type in appearance. Any of these water deficit-inducible promoters may be incorporated into an expression vector that comprises a polynucleotide regulated by one such promoter and which encodes a polypeptide that, when ectopically expressed, improves water deficit tolerance in plants that are similar to control plants in their morphology and development.
