A mounting aid arranged for receiving a valve-actuating sub-assembly intended for installation coaxially about a valve stem. The sub-assembly includes a valve coil spring, a spring retainer having a central aperture and a split collar. The mounting aid has a closing disc having an outer circumference and being arranged for engaging an outer radial surface of the spring retainer coaxially therewith; an axial extension attached to the closing disc at the outer circumference thereof; and hold-back means formed on the end of the extension for releasably securing the sub-assembly to the axial extension.

Mounting aid for installing valve actuating elements

A slide ring seal for use in a liquid pump, for example, employs an open-ended seal housing and a carrier body which is urged away from the seal housing by a spring. A rubber ring and a slide ring are mounted in the carrier body. The slide ring slidably engages a rotating running ring on a pump impeller, for example, to form a seal. The rubber ring establishes a seal between the carrier body and the slide ring and between the carrier body and the seal housing.

Method of oil and gas tightly fastening a diaphragm made of an elastomer material with respect to the tappet as well as the adjusting element within a hydrostatic valve clearance adjusting device and configuration of the same. Clamping rings are form-lockingly connected with the fastening end of the diaphragm already during the vulcanization process. The thus manufactured installable unit is fixed in the tappet in the correct position orientation by means of an installation tool. Moreover, the structural configuration of the clamping rings is described as well as that of the elastic diaphragm.

Valve clearance adjusting device

A valve stem sealing assembly includes a valve spring, a valve spring retainer, and a valve spring seal which is releasably connected either directly or indirectly to the valve spring retainer. Such a valve stem sealing assembly can be installed as a unit during mass production of engines. In one embodiment the valve spring retainer is provided with a sleeve which releasably supports the valve stem seal. Another embodiment includes a protection element on which the valve spring rests to keep it from digging into the metal of the engine. Both the protection element and the valve spring retainer are provided with sleeves in the second embodiment, and these sleeves are releasably connected. The valve stem seal is lodged in the sleeve of the protection element. In both embodiments the releasable connection, which may be provided by force-fitting one element into another, is released after installation of the assembly.

A valve tappet assembly has a hollow tappet body, a valve clearance adjusting element spaced from the inner wall face of the tappet body and having a circumferential groove, an elastomer annular diaphragm having an outer edge zone adjoining the inner wall face of the tappet body and an inner edge zone adjoining the outer face of the valve clearance adjusting element, a first radially inwardly projecting circumferential rib provided at the inner edge zone and received in the circumferential groove; an outer and an inner clamping ring circumferentially pressing the outer edge zone against the inner wall face at the tappet and, respectively, the inner edge zone against the outer wall face of the valve clearance adjusting element to provide respective circumferential sealing zones; and a second radially inwardly projecting circumferential rib in the inner edge zone, situated adjacent the first rib and being pressed into circumferential engagement with the outer wall face of the valve clearance adjusting element adjacent the circumferential groove thereof.

Diaphragm seal for a valve tappet

A shaft seal assembly adapted for installation on and concentrically with a rotary shaft for sealing off a chamber laden with a gas/liquid mixture from a space situated externally of the chamber. The assembly has a chamber side and an air side and further comprises a sealing lip circumferentially surrounding a stationary part of the assembly; a labyrinth sealing ring situated axially adjacent the sealing sleeve on the chamber side of the assembly. The labyrinth sealing ring comprises a rotary wall component and a stationary wall component together defining a labyrinth gap formed of a plurality of consecutive axial and radial passages for guiding the mixture in a path having a plurality of radial and axial deflections. The shaft seal assembly further has a liquid return device situated between the sealing lip and the labyrinth sealing ring as viewed along a path of propagation of the mixture in the assembly; and a radially oriented, operationally stationary return channel situated between the sealing lip and the labyrinth sealing ring for returning liquid from the assembly into the chamber in a radially outward direction.

An engine valve actuating mechanism includes a hollow reciprocating tappet, a tappet bottom arranged for engagement with a rotary cam of an engine cam shaft, a valve clearance adjusting device accommodated in the tappet and including a valve clearance adjusting element cooperating with the valve stem of the engine valve, a chamber within the tappet, filled with a hydraulic fluid, and an elastic diaphragm supported in the tappet and arranged for bounding and sealing the chamber. The diaphragm extends generally radially relative to the tappet axis between an inner circumferential wall surface of the tappet and the valve clearance adjusting element. The diaphragm has radially inner and radially outer circumferential zones. There are further provided first and second reinforcing elements supported in the tappet. The first reinforcing element is arranged for radially pressing the radially outer diaphragm zone against the inner tappet surface and the second reinforcing element is arranged for radially pressing the radially inner diaphragm zone against the valve clearance adjusting element.

A seal assembly for a rotary machine comprises a rotary machine part of a hard rubber-like elastomer and a sheet metal hub surrounded by the rotary machine part and being permanently bonded thereto. The sheet metal hub is generally sleeve-shaped and has a radial base situated within the rotary machine part and a generally cylindrical wall extending substantially along the entire axial length of the rotary machine part in a coaxial relationship therewith. The seal assembly further has a counter ring in contact with the rotary machine part and a slide ring seal unit being in sliding contact with the counter ring.

Seal assembly, particularly for liquid pumps

A lip sealing ring including a cylindrical elastic body having a sealing lip at one end and an attachment portion at the other end and a cylindrical reinforcing member having a first portion which includes an end face, a second portion having a smaller diameter than the first portion, and a shoulder portion joining the first and second portions. The reinforcing member surrounds the attachment portion and has only its inside surface bonded to the attachment portion. The reinforcing member is positioned such that the end face is located toward the sealing lip.

A housing cover for closing and sealing an opening of a housing from which a shaft-like member projects, comprises a main body having an aperture through which the shaft-like member is adapted to pass, a first elastomer seal vulcanized to the main body about the aperture for sealingly cooperating with the shaft-like member, a second elastomer seal vulcanized to the main body at a distance from and in a different plane than the first elastomer seal for sealingly cooperating with the housing and elastomer sealing elements connecting the first and second elastomer seals with one another.

A shaft seal assembly for installation and operation in an annular space defined between first and second relatively rotatable machine components. The shaft seal assembly has a housing adapted to engage the first machine component, a runner ring surrounded by the housing and adapted to engage the second machine component, a chamber defined by the housing and bounded by the runner ring and a sealing body disposed in the chamber. The sealing body is an incompletely polymerized elastomer fully polymerizable subsequent to the installation by heat generated during operation of the first and second machine components.
