A robotic surgical system is provided with a central drive unit movably coupled to a robotic arm. The central drive unit includes telescoping assemblies, each facilitating movement of an instrument drive unit along a Z-axis (e.g., for moving surgical instruments into and out of the patient). An instrument (e.g., surgical tool, endoscope camera) is removably coupleable to each instrument drive unit. A manual brake release can be actuated to manually retract the instrument.

Systems and methods for unpowered release and retraction of robotic tools in a robotic surgical system

A surgical instrument of a robotic surgical system includes an elongated shaft assembly, and end effector, and an instrument cassette assembly. The elongated shaft assembly has a proximal end portion and a distal end portion. The end effector is supported the distal end portion of the elongated shaft assembly. The instrument cassette assembly is supported on the proximal end portion of the elongated shaft assembly. The instrument cassette assembly includes a cassette housing and an actuator system supported in the cassette housing. The actuator system is operably coupled to the end effector for operating the end effector.

Instrument cassette assemblies for robotic surgical instruments

A robotic surgery system is disclosed that can include an instrument including an operational tool coupled to a positioner and an input device configured to generate input signals in response to manipulation by an operator representing a desired spatial positioning of the tool within a tool workspace including extents corresponding to physical movement limitations for the positioner. A processor can be configured to receive the input signals and process the signals to determine the desired spatial positioning. The processor can be configured to initiate a movement management function in response to a determination that the desired spatial positioning would result in a movement of the positioner associated with a potential service life reduction for the instrument. The processor can be configured to generate drive signals for movement of the positioner in response to a determination that the desired spatial positioning is not associated with a potential reduction in service life.

Service life management for an instrument of a robotic surgery system

An insertion device for a single port robotic surgery apparatus can include an insertion section with first and second camera channels and an instrument channel, the first camera channel configured to facilitate insertion and removal of a primary camera, the second camera channel configured to enclose a secondary camera, and the instrument channel configured to permit insertion and removal of a surgical instrument from the insertion section, The insertion device can include a housing attached to the insertion section, the housing including a passage configured to permit at least a portion of the primary camera to pass through the housing into the first camera channel and exit the first camera channel. The secondary camera can be configured to provide image data of a surgical site to facilitate insertion into the surgical site of at least one of the surgical instrument or the primary camera.

Systems, methods, and apparatuses for capturing images during a medical procedure

A visualization device for a robotic surgery apparatus includes a housing configured to be removably attached to a mounting interface of the apparatus and be positioned adjacent an insertion device of the apparatus. The housing includes first and second openings positioned on an exterior of the housing. The housing includes a substantially flexible camera tube with a first end attached to the housing and a second end including at least one camera. The second end is inserted through the first opening in the housing, pass through interior of the housing, and exit the housing through the second opening in the housing. The second end extends away from the housing toward a region of interest outside the housing or retract away from the region of interest and back toward the housing. The camera tube forms a loop around a portion of the housing.

Camera positioning system, method, and apparatus for capturing images during a medical procedure

A robotic surgery system includes a control unit assembly that supports and operates one or more robotic tools and a mechanical arm assembly that movably supports the control unit assembly in space. The mechanical arm assembly includes a boom assembly with one or more boom arms rotatably coupled to each other via one or more joints and having one or more actuators. An elevating linkage assembly is coupled to the boom assembly and has an actuator operable to allow vertical movement of the control unit assembly in a substantially weightless manner. Yaw and pitch control assemblies are interposed between the elevating linkage assembly and the control unit assembly and have actuators operable to allow movement of the control unit assembly in yaw and pitch. The one or more actuators are actuatable to allow movement of the control unit assembly in space upon actuation of one or more user interfaces of the control unit assembly.

In some embodiments, an insertion device for a single port robotic surgery apparatus includes a plurality of instrument channels positioned in an interior of a housing and extending along substantially an entire length of the housing, the plurality of instrument channels configured to removably house a plurality of surgical instruments, a plurality of openings in a rear exterior surface of the housing, the plurality of openings providing access to the plurality of instrument channels and configured to facilitate insertion of the plurality of surgical instruments into the plurality of instrument channels, and an illumination device supported at least partially at the rear exterior surface of the housing and positioned proximal to the plurality of openings, the illumination device configured to illuminate the openings to facilitate insertion of the plurality of instruments through the plurality of openings.

Instrument insertion system, method, and apparatus for performing medical procedures

In various examples, a hub for a medical device includes a hub housing including a passage from a proximal end of the hub housing to a distal end of the hub housing. A valve is disposed within the hub. The valve is configured to allow passage of an insertable device through the valve while inhibiting leakage of fluid from the valve. A cap is engaged to the hub housing. The cap includes an opening therethrough sized and shaped to allow passage of the insertable device through the opening. The opening allows access to the passage of the hub housing. An angled sidewall is disposed within the hub. The angled sidewall is configured to retain and deform the valve into a curved shape.

Medical device with hemostatic valve

A robotic surgery cart has a pair of rear wheel assemblies and a pair of front wheel assemblies. A brake assembly for the robotic surgery cart includes a gearbox interposed between and connected to the pair of rear wheel assemblies by rotatable shafts. Elongate actuators extend between and interconnect the rotatable shafts and brake mechanisms for the front wheel assemblies. A pedal lever is rotatably coupled to the gearbox and can rotate clockwise by pressing one portion of the pedal lever and can rotate counterclockwise by pressing another portion of the pedal lever. Rotation of the pedal lever causes the gearbox to rotate the rotatable shafts to substantially lock the pair of rear wheel assemblies, and substantially simultaneously causes a translation of the elongate actuators to actuate the brake mechanisms of the front wheel assemblies, such that the wheels of the front and rear wheel assemblies brake substantially simultaneously.
