Multiplexed test measurements are conducted using an assay module having a plurality of assay domains. In preferred embodiments, these measurements are conducted in assay modules having integrated electrodes with a reader apparatus adapted to receive assay modules, induce luminescence, preferably electrode induced luminescence, in the wells or assay regions of the assay modules and measure the induced luminescence.

The present invention relates to a field emission device comprising an anode and a cathode, wherein said cathode includes carbon nanotubes nanotubes which have been subjected to energy, plasma, chemical, or mechanical treatment. A method for treating the carbon nanotubes and for creating a field emission cathode is also disclosed. Improved methods of forming a patterned self-assembled monolayer on a surface and derivative articles are provided. According to one method, an elastomeric stamp is deformed during and/or prior to using the stamp to print a self-assembled molecular monolayer on a surface. According to another method, during monolayer printing the surface is contacted with a liquid that is immiscible with the molecular monolayer-forming species to effect controlled reactive spreading of the monolayer on the surface. Methods of printing self-assembled molecular monolayers on nonplanar surfaces and derivative articles are provided, as are methods of etching surfaces patterned with self-assembled monolayers, including methods of etching silicon. Optical elements including flexible diffraction gratings, mirrors, and lenses are provided, as are methods for forming optical devices and other articles using lithographic molding. A method for controlling the shape of a liquid on the surface of an article is provided, involving applying the liquid to a self-assembled monolayer on the surface, and controlling the electrical potential of the surface.

An electrochemiluminescence cell comprising an electrode capable of inducing an electrochemiluminescence-active species to electrochemiluminesce. The electrode is preferably made of rhodium, iridium or an alloy of platinum, rhodium or iridium alloyed with an alloy material comprising a transition element. The electrode may be used as counter electrode and/or as a working electrode in the electrochemiluminescence cell. The cell preferably includes a counter electrode and a support attached to the counter electrode. The support comprises a transparent portion in optical registration with the working electrode. The counter electrode may include one or more field extending elements interposed between the transparent portion and the working electrode. The field extending element is preferably a ladder or a grid.

Optical lithography scheme making use of light coupling structures, and elastomeric light coupling structures in particular. These light coupling structures comprise protruding portions and connecting portions. The protruding elements are designed to be brought into conformal contact with a resist to be exposed such that the light guided into the protruding elements is coupled from there directly into the resist. The lateral shape and size of the protruding elements defines 1:1 the lateral size and shape of small features to be exposed in the resist.

Methods for electroless deposition of conductive material on a substrate using in both cases a stamp having a patterned surface which is pressed onto the surface of a substrate for printing the substrate and providing a pattern of a catalyst on the substrate on which metal deposition occurs in the course of electroless deposition by immersing the printed substrate in a plating bath are provided. In one case, the stamp is pretreated to render the pattern of the stamp wettable with a catalytic ink which is transformed to the surface of the substrate. In the other case, a catalytic layer is provided on the surface of the substrate which is patterned by the stamp transferring a resist material onto the catalytic layer so that a subsequent etching process lays open the desired pattern of the catalytic layer for electroless deposition.

A patterning device comprises a patterning cavity which has an opening located at the surface of the patterning device within a transfer region, where a substrate during patterning comes into conformal contact with the patterning device. A service cavity is located in a service region of the patterning device and is connected to the patterning cavity, such that a patterning fluid is able to flow from the service cavity to the patterning cavity. A patterning method uses this device.
