Systems and methods for wireless device triggered connection resume with early data transmission are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a method performed by a wireless device for triggering a connection resume with early data transmission comprises sending, to a radio access node, a first Radio Resource Control (RRC) message for resuming an RRC connection of the wireless device. The first RRC message comprises uplink data for early data transmission and Access Stratum (AS) Release Assistance Information (RAI). The AS RAI comprises information that indicates that no subsequent downlink and uplink data are expected, information that indicates that a single subsequent downlink data packet is expected, or information that indicates that multiple subsequent data packets are expected in downlink and/or uplink. The method further comprises receiving a second RRC message from the radio access node.

UE-triggered connection resume with early data transmission and network-triggered connection resume

Systems and methods for session continuity of Multicast Broadcast (MB) Sessions are provided. In some embodiments, a method performed by a base station for session continuity of MB Sessions includes at least one of: providing at least one MB Session to a wireless device connected in 5G; determining that the wireless device is handed over to a target Next Generation Radio Access Network (NG-RAN); and providing session continuity of the at least one MB Session to the wireless device. In some embodiments, being handed over to the target NG-RAN comprises an Xn handover. In some embodiments, being handed over to the target NG-RAN comprises a N2 handover. Some embodiments of the current disclosure provide support for Multicast Broadcast Session continuity (aka 'Handover') at Inter-gNB Xn Handover and Inter-gNB N2 Handover in the 5G NR radio access.

Systems and methods related to core network and radio access network (RAN) interactions for a Multicast/Broadcast (MB) session are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a method performed by an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) for a MB session join procedure includes receiving a MB session join request from a User Equipment (UE) via a RAN node, the MB session join request being a request to join a particular MB session. The method further includes determining that the MB session join request is permitted by a subscription of the UE, selecting a MB Session Management Function (MB-SMF) based on information included in the MB session join request, communicating with the MB-SMF to create a MB session context in the AMF and an MB session context in the MB-SMF, and sending a MB session join accept message to the UE.

Apparatuses and methods for configuration of downlink data measurement at mobile terminating early data transmission (MT-EDT) are provided. In one embodiment, a method implemented at a network node includes determining whether to measure a size of downlink data for a mobile terminating early data transmission, MT-EDT, procedure associated with a user equipment, UE; as a result of the determination, obtaining a measurement of the size of the downlink data; and optionally, sending the measurement of the size of the downlink data to a second network node.
