Embodiments of the present invention relate to reduction of radio connectivity of a bearer service. Upon detection of low data transfer activity within a bearer service, radio connectivity of the bearer service is reduced so as to reduce signaling overhead in an air interface. However, a core network connection of the bearer service is maintained.

Reduced radio resource control connectivity

A method and apparatus for controlling retransmissions in multipoint reception is disclosed. In the method it is determined that additional information is needed for decoding of at least one received information block. A procedure is selected for obtaining the additional information from a plurality of options to proceed based on information about predicted result of at least one of the options. In accordance with an aspect an indication of one of a positive acknowledgement of the information block, a negative acknowledgement of the information block and suspension of retransmission of the information block is generated and communicated on a retransmission control channel.

Controlling retransmissions

A communications system where data blocks from a communications device are received at least in a serving site over a wireless interface. The serving site typically checks whether data blocks have been correctly received and sends acknowledgement information to the communications device accordingly. An assisting site may also receive the data blocks and send information indicating whether data blocks have been correctly received in the assisting site. In this case, the serving site may request erroneously received information from the assisting site. Alternatively, the assisting site may send information indicating erroneous reception of data blocks in response to noticing a data block sent by the communications device. As a further alternative, the assisting site may be synchronized with the data blocks sent by the communications device and send quality information relating to the wireless interface between the communications device and the assisting site to the serving site.

Processing of uplink data in a communications system

The present invention relates to a method and system for scheduling data packets in a base station device of an access network. An information indicating a retransmission status of a data packet is provided to the base station device, and a scheduling priority is allocated to the data packet based on the retransmission status information. Thereby, retransmission packets can be scheduled earlier and round trip times can be reduced, so as to decrease the risk of timeouts and stalling and to loosen buffer requirements.

System and methods for improved uplink signal detection where when a mobile device detects signaling indicating the presence of a packet for that mobile device from a network node, the mobile device may transmit one or more NACKs in a sub-frame before the one in which the mobile device would transmit the normal ACK/NACK for the packet. Additionally, the mobile device may transmit one or more NACKs in the sub-frame immediately following the normal ACK/NACK for a packet (unless a packet was transmitted in the immediately following sub-frame and successfully decoded by the mobile device, in which case an ACK would obviously be transmitted). Therefore, extra uplink (UL) interference is eliminated. Moreover, the amount that a network node must offset its ACK/NACK decision threshold is significantly reduced. This results in a reduction of required ACK power by a mobile device.
