A method of authorizing a key or lock device comprises the following steps: a first user device and a first system device used in a first level of a lock system, such as at a manufacturer, are created. A first encryption key is stored in the first user device and the first system device. When the user device is to be shipped to a second level of the lock system, such as a locksmith, an authentication process is carried out between the first user device and the first system device using the first encryption key stored therein. In case the authentication process was successful, a software operation is carried out by the first system device, by which the first encryption key stored in the first user device is replaced by a second encryption key. This second encryption key is stored in second system and user devices used in the second level of the lock system, thereby making the first user device operable with the second system and user devices. This prevents unauthorized use of keys and locks.

Key and lock device

A key and lock device comprises a key having a first electronic circuit and a lock having a second electronic circuit. The key and the lock store secret information, some of which is unique for each device. The key and the lock exchange a random number through connectors and perform a calculation in the respective circuitry based on the random number and secret information. An electrical blocking mechanism is moved to a non-blocking position if a comparison of the calculations in the circuits gives the correct result.

An electromechanical cylinder lock-key-combination includes a key having a mechanical locking code and a device for storing an electronic code and sending it into the lock. A lock body encloses a turnable lock cylinder and a locking mechanism which normally prevents turning of the lock cylinder with regard to the lock body and which can be moved by the key into a releasing position allowing turning of the lock cylinder. The lock includes a special locking disc with which the key is not in direct mechanical force transmission connection, an identification and control device for receiving and identifying the electronic code from the key, and an electric operating device with a turnable coupling member attached thereto and having a free position and a coupling position in which it couples the special locking disc with the turning movement of the key for opening the lock, whereby when there is a match with the correct electronic code of the key the identification and control device activates the electric operating device to guide the coupling member to its coupling position. The coupling member is located and is in cooperation with a guiding groove in the special locking disc, the guiding groove having a guiding surface which the coupling member affects in its coupling position thereby turning the special locking disc when the key is turned in the lock.

Electromechanical cylinder lock-key-combination

A key and lock device comprises a key and a standalone lock. The key has an electronic circuitry with a first memory and a contact. The lock has electronic circuitry with a memory, and a contact arranged to co-operate with the key's first contact. A blocking mechanism is adapted to block operation of the lock unless an authorized key is inserted in the lock. The memory of the key stores a public identification item of the key identifying a group of keys having identical mechanical codes. In the memory of the lock, there is provided a list of the public and secret identification items of authorized keys and a list of the public identification item of non-authorized keys. A key is authorized if the public and secret identification items are present in the list of authorized keys and the public identification item thereof is absent in the list of non-authorized keys.

An electromechanical cylinder lock includes a lock body and a turnable lock cylinder and a locking mechanism inside the lock body. The locking mechanism normally prevents turning of the lock cylinder relative to the lock body and can be moved by a key of the lock to a releasing position allowing turning of the lock cylinder. The key for the lock includes a transmitter for transmitting an electronic code and the lock correspondingly includes a receiver for receiving and identifying the code of the key. When the receiver detects the correct code the receiver enables mechanical opening of the lock by the key. The lock includes a locking disc with a key opening which is so designed that the turning of the key does not directly act mechanically on the locking disc. The lock also includes a coupling element for coupling the locking disc to the turning movement of the key. The lock is provided with an electric operator which is activated by the electronic code from the key and which in an active state controls the coupling element so that the locking disc turns with the key to a position required for opening of the locking mechanism.
