A method includes transferring data between a mobile station for communicating over a mobile communications network and a server in the Internet having a connection to the mobile communications network. The transfer of data includes providing at least a portion of a page on the Internet in the form of code, the code including a telephone number of the mobile station as hidden information, receiving the code in the mobile station in a first user message where the first user message is a short message service message, and interpreting the code in the mobile station to cause the mobile station to display information corresponding to the page on the Internet on the mobile station, wherein the information to be displayed on the mobile station does not include the hidden information.

Communication network terminal supporting a plurality of applications

A method for providing a content service to a subscriber terminal (MS) from a first server, i.e. content server (CS). The provision of the content service from the content server to the subscriber terminal is controlled by a second server, i.e. proxy (CBP). The control comprises the following steps: 1) determining (-to-) a billing address for the content service by means of the proxy (CBP); 2) under the control of the content billing proxy, providing (-) a content service corresponding to a service request from the content server (CS) to the subscriber terminal (MS); and 3) generating (-) billing information (CDR) related to the content service.

In a digital mobile communication system, a packet radio system has been implemented by employing the radio interface of the mobile communication network. The packet radio system comprises packet radio support nodes (SGSN) connected to the mobile communication network, as well as gateway support nodes for providing an inter-connection to an external packet data network (). The support nodes (SGSN, GGSN) are connected to an intra-operator packet switched backbone network (). The serving support nodes and the gateway support nodes collect charging information on usage of the radio interface and the data network (), respectively. The system is further provided with a billing gateway support node (BGGSN) connected to the internal backbone network (BGGSN) to receive user-specific charging information collected by the other support nodes, and to forward the charging information to a charging system.

A terminal for a communication network, the terminal being capable of supporting a plurality of applications and communicating user messages. The terminal is configured to receive user messages having data and a header relating to one of the applications and address the data to a respective application according to the header. In an embodiment the user messages are short messages and the data includes characters in the short message.

A problem with known data transmission networks is that the connection of the terminal equipment to the data transmission network is not flexible. The method is characterized in that at least one criterion is established for the choice of access point, the access points are estimated according to said criteria, at least one access point meeting the criteria is chosen, and the data transmission traffic is connected through the chosen at least one access point.

A method of paging a mobile station to establish a packet-switched connection in a mobile telephone network that supports a circuit-switched connection and a packet-switched connection. To establish a mobile-terminated circuit-switched connection, the mobile telephone network sends the mobile station a page request, as a result of which the mobile station switches to standby mode for a circuit-switched connection. To save the batteries and to reduce the need of processing, the mobile station listens only to the paging channels of the circuit-switched connection. To establish a mobile-terminated packet-switched connection, the mobile telephone network sends the mobile station a page request via a circuit-switched connection and subsequently sends the mobile station the additional information commanding the mobile station to switch to a packet-switched connection. After detecting the additional information, the mobile station switches to the packet-switched connection.

A system and method for optimizing Internet data transmission so that end-user experience is the best possible. The invention has at least one class set for estimating the network load, wherein each class set consists of classes. The method estimates the network load by each class of the class set. The estimation may be based on counting retransmission requests or packet acknowledgements related to class sets. For example, a class set may consist of classes so that there is a class per each cell of the network. Then the method detects which packets cause a lot of retransmission requests and thus a lot of retransmissions. The method can intelligently target its acceleration actions to certain packets. Four new acceleration actions can be used together with the prior art acceleration actions to accelerate the network traffic.

Methods and arrangements are disclosed for transferring digital data over a limited speed communications link between a client side subarrangement () and a server side subarrangement (). Methods and arrangements for providing efficient information transfer over a limited-speed communications link

Within a cellular network, an incoming voice mail message is received at a voice mail server (), adapted into a format suitable for transmission by a network connection which does not meet a delay requirement for delay sensitive information, dispatched to a mobile station (), and received, readapted and stored thereat within a storing means (). Adaptation, transmission, reception and readaptation conform to standards such as the GPRS and the UMTS. The voice mail message is dispatched directly to the mobile station () via an IP address of an ISDN address thereof. In this manner, instead of dispatching a message via the SMS, the sending of an adapted voice mail message directly to a mobile station () and storing it thereat makes it possible to avoid that a user has to poll a service center by calling in order to have the message delivered.

An access point (GGSN) from a mobile communications system to an external system is selected ( ) at a service node (SGSN) of the mobile communications system based on at least two or three grounds of selection: the subscription data of a mobile subscriber stored in the mobile communication system or an access point selection data given by a user in a service request ( ), or on other grounds. The serving node sends to the access point (GGSN) selected a further service request ( ) which includes indication of the grounds of the selection, i.e. whether the access point is selected by subscription, by a user, or based on any other grounds. Thereby the access point is able to distinguish and accept service requests in which the rights of the user are already assured by the subscription, without any security problems. When the request is based on the selection of the access point by the user, or on any other insecure grounds, the access point is able to make any further actions to ensure the security. These further actions may include rejection of the service request.

Access control method for a mobile communications system

General Packet Radio Service is a new service designed for digital mobile systems. Because of bottlenecks, such as an air interface (Um), queues may be formed in routers. Long transmissions of data may slow the operation of interactive applications so that it is no longer sensible to use the applications. In the routers, separate queues are formed for each service, quality of service, connection, subscriber and/or application/application class. Quality of service can be indicated by providing each packet with an identity indicating the quality, or a change in the quality can be signalled as separate messages. The amount of data sent from a queue at one go may be controlled primarily based on quality of service of the subscriber. When packets are sent from a queue, it is monitored whether only a small number of packets remains in the queue, and if so, these packets are sent as well.
