A device is disclosed which comprises at least one sleeve having a number of chambers. The sleeve may be placed around the patient's extremity which is to be treated, and the chambers can be inflated and deflated by means of valves. To accomplish an optimum treatment of the patient and an uncomplicated construction of the device, all the valves are connected in series and arranged to be operated successively in cascade-fashion via common feed and control pipes which are connected only to the first valve, whilst downstream each pair of mutually adjacent valves are interconnected via sections of feed and control pipes. In each valve a valve member such as a diaphragm separates a supply volume of the valve, which is in constant communication with an infeeding feed pipe section and with the assoicated chamber, from a valve control volume which is in constant communication with the control pipe. After the corresponding chamber is filled, the valve member of the valve uncovers a valve opening, thereby allowing supply air to reach the next valve downstream of it to inflate the next chamber.

In a surgical composition comprising a liquid monomeric and powdered polymeric acrylate or methacrylate, a catalyst and an accelerator, the composition upon mixing of the liquid and powdered constituents passing through a plastic state to a solid state, the improvement which comprises including in the composition about 1 to 15% by weight of dimethyl sulfoxide. A powder mixture for surgical use, containing a methyl methacrylate homopolymer and/or copolymer powder, an X-ray contrast medium powder and a polymerization initiator, wherein the polymerization initiator is present as a combination product with the polymer powder or the X-ray contrast medium. This powder mixture is suitable for the preparation of surgical compositions which harden and are based on polymethyl methacrylate or its copolymers.

Process for the preparation of a powder mixture for surgical use

A bandage for forming a stiffening or supporting cast comprising a carrier material and a composition thereon. The material includes a gas permeable flexible fabric-like base of the usual kind. The composition comprises (a) 55-97% by weight of gypsum, burnt, (b) 1-30%, preferably 3-30%, by weight of a highly crosslinked, finely dispersed poly-vinyl ester powder, which powder is more than 50% insoluble in ethyl-acetate, and (c) 0-12%, preferably 3-12%, by weight of a light weight cellular or porous filler having a bulk density of up to 0.1 g/cc.

Supporting bandage

A self-adhesive composition comprising a crosslinked copolymer of 0.01 to 5% by weight based on said composition of a compound taken from the class consisting of acrylic and methacrylic-[(2-alkoxy-2-phenyl-2-benzoyl) ethyl] esters and at least one monomer capable of producing a self-adhesive polymer. A method of preparation of the composition is also disclosed.
