The invention concerns a method of controlling a device for removing flat items of post as a function of the spacing of the item of post to be removed from an item of post already removed, the actual spacing between the item to be removed and the removed item being determined, and the item to be removed being removed as soon as the actual spacing corresponds to a nominal spacing. According to the invention in order to reduce the difference between average gaps between the items of post and minimum gaps, the item of post to be removed is first accelerated to an intermediate speed value which is slower than a predetermined final speed. As soon as the actual spacing equals the nominal spacing, the item of post is accelerated to the final speed.

Method of controlling a device for removing flat items of post from a stack

An apparatus for sorting sheets includes a sorting section having boxes, a separating section, and a printing section, the latter two of which are respectively located on both sides of the sorting section. The separating section includes a separating mechanism for downwardly feeding out sheets in a constant gap system, a recognizing mechanism for scanning character information described on each sheet, a bar code scanning unit for scanning bar code information, and a conveying path of the separating section for conveying the sheets fed out of the separating mechanism. The printing section includes a printing mechanism for printing the recognized result as bar code information on the sheets, a verifying mechanism for verifying the printed result, and a conveying path of the printing section for feeding out the sheet on which the bar code is printed, to the sorting section. In an upper space of the sorting section is located a delaying conveying path for connecting the conveying path of the separating section with the conveying path of the printing section and securing the recognizing time.

Apparatus for sorting various kinds of sheets of paper

A sorting compartment arrangement for flat items includes a conveying section for conveying the flat items successively in a vertical position. Switches are disposed along the conveying section. A plurality of individual stacking compartments are arranged one behind the other along the conveying section and associated with a respective one of the switches. The items are supplied by the switches to the individual stacking compartments. Each stacking compartment includes a stack wall up to which the items are transported, a stack roller and a guide plate for transporting and guiding, respectively, the items from the switch into the stacking compartment up to the stack wall to form a stack of items in the stacking compartment, and a mechanism for pressing the stack of items together until shortly before an arrival of a next item to be stacked.

Sorting compartment arrangement for flat items

In the method of the invention for sequencing parcels in mail-sorting facilities having rows of stacking compartments, a sorting plan is used for sorting the parcels in which an overfilling of the individual stacking compartments is avoided so that, during one sorting procedure, the stacking compartments are not emptied, and that, after a sorting procedure has ended, an in-sequence transfer of the parcels is effected from the stacking compartments into a conveying device disposed opposite the stacking compartments or into containers.

A control circuit compares the spacing between successive flat objects with a preferred preselected spacing and if these is a difference the control circuit changes the drive apparatus so the actual spacing between flat objects is the preferred spacing.
