A two-pack coating composition comprising curing agents selected from the group consisting of non-blocked poly-functional isocyanates I, polyaziridines Z, and carbodiimides Y, and an aqueously dispersed polyurethane U wherein the polyurethane U comprises building blocks derived from hydroxyl group containing unsaturated fatty acids B21, a process for the production of the polyurethane U, and a method of use thereof in combination with the said curing agents in preparing coating compositions which are particularly useful for wood.

This invention relates to a self-crosslinking binder for coating compositions comprising an aqueously dispersed resinous component A having at least one carbonyl group of the ketone or aldehyde type per molecule, and a component B having at least two hydrazine or hydrazide groups per molecule, and at least one structural unit &#x2014;NR&#x2014;NR&#x2014;CHR&#x2014;CHR&#x2014;NH&#x2014;R(I) where the radicals R, R, Rand Rare each individually selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen radical, and a linear or branched alkyl radical having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, Rand Rmay additionally be selected from the group consisting of aryl and alkylaryl radicals having from 6 to 15 carbon atoms, and from oxy alkyl radicals with from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, where oxy groups may be inserted into the alkyl chain, or at the end of an alkyl chain, and Ris selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen radical, alkyl radicals which may be linear, branched or cyclic and may have from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and residues of the formula &#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;CO&#x2014;O&#x2014;X, where n is an integer of from 1 to 6, and X is the residue of a polyhydric alcohol or phenol, and a process for its preparation.

Self-crosslinking binders

Oxidatively drying aqueous polyurethane dispersions obtainable by reacting drying and/or simidrying oils with low molar mass hydroxy compounds having two or more hydroxyl groups to give compounds containing on average at least one hydroxyl group and at least one radical of a fatty acid having at least one olefinic double bond, then reacting these compounds together with high molar mass polyols, compounds having at least two isocyanate-reactive groups and at least one acid or cation-forming group with polyfunctional isocyanates to give prepolymers having a mass fraction of unreacted isocyanate groups of from 0.1 to 4%, then neutralizing the product and transferring the utilized product to the aqueous phase, a process for preparing them and their use for coating wood.
