Block properties and improved calculated columns properties are provided in a spreadsheet application. Once block properties are set for a group of spreadsheet cells or a spreadsheet list, the properties may be applied to the entire group of selected cells or list as opposed to requiring application of properties to individual cells. If rows or columns are added to the group of selected cells or list, properties applied to the group of cells or list are automatically applied to the new rows or columns. Block properties also provide for intelligent-behaving list borders where list borders are not corrupted by the movement or changing of columns or rows sharing edges with a list border. Calculated columns are a type of block property that extends the functionality of formulas throughout an entire column of an associated group of cells or list.

A web publishing application can generate and save web files to a web server based upon a user's design of a web page or web site. If the user subsequently modifies the web page or web site using the web publishing application, the web publishing application can identify and save only the new web files and modified web files to the web server that result from the user's modifications. For example, the web publishing application can identify which web files are new files and which web files have been modified by comparing the hash values and hash algorithms associated with the web files to the hash values and hash algorithms associated with the stored web files.

A table version of a document is generated by computing a table layout of the document and generating the table version based on the table layout. Computing the table layout can include recording the positions of each object in the document, dividing the document into sections, and grouping the sections based on their object content. Generating the table version of the document from the table layout can include creating table code that represents information in the table layout of the document. The table version of the document can be used to export the document to one or more computers in a distributed network while maintaining the visual fidelity and text content of the original document.
