A process for preparing isobutene homo- or copolymer derivatives by (i) polymerizing isobutene or an isobutene-comprising monomer mixture in the presence of an iron halide-donor complex, an aluminum trihalide-donor complex, or an alkylaluminum halide-donor complex, (ii) reacting a resulting high-reactivity isobutene polymer with a compound which introduces a low molecular weight polar group or a substructure thereof, and (iii) in the case of reaction with a substructure, further reacting to complete the formation of the low molecular weight polar group. The homo- or copolymer derivatives include a radical of a hydrophobic polyisobutene polymer having a number-average molecular weight of 110 to 250 000 and low molecular weight polar groups including amino functions, nitro groups, hydroxyl groups, mercaptan groups, carboxylic acid or carboxylic acid derivative functions, sulfonic acid or sulfonic acid derivative functions, aldehyde functions and/or silyl groups.

The present invention relates to novel quaternized ammonium salts of hydrocarbyl epoxides, to the preparation thereof and to the use thereof as a fuel additive and lubricant additive, such as, more particularly, as a detergent additive; for reducing or preventing deposits in the injection systems of direct injection diesel engines, especially in common rail injection systems, for reducing the fuel consumption of direct injection diesel engines, especially of diesel engines with common rail injection systems, and for minimizing power loss in direct injection diesel engines, especially in diesel engines with common rail injection systems; and as an additive for gasoline fuels, especially for operation of DISI engines.

The present invention relates to novel quaternized nitrogen compounds, to the preparation thereof and to the use thereof as a fuel and lubricant additive, more particularly as a detergent additive; to additive packages which comprise these compounds; and to fuels and lubricants thus additized. Preparation of isobutene homopolymers or copolymers having a number average molecular weight of from 500 to 5 000 000 by polymerization of isobutene or an isobutene-comprising monomer mixture in the presence of a Lewis acid or a complex comprising a Lewis acid as polymerization catalyst, wherein the polymerization is carried out in the presence of at least one hemiacetal or full acetal which can be obtained by protic acid-catalyzed reaction of at least one C-C-hydrocarbyl alcohol with at least one aldehyde or ketone having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms.

Process for preparing isobutene homopolymers or copolymers

Polytetrahydrobenzoxazines and bistetrahydrobenzoxazines, obtainable by (A) reacting at least one diamine of the formula HN-A-NHwith a C- to C-aldehyde and a C- to C-alkanol at 20 to 80&#xb0; C. with elimination and removal of water, (B) reacting the condensation product from (A) with a phenol which bears a long-chain substituent at 30 to 120&#xb0; C., and optionally (C) heating the reaction product from (B) to 125 to 280&#xb0; C. The resulting polytetrahydrobenzoxazines and bistetrahydrobenzoxazines are suitable as fuel or lubricant additives, especially as detergent additives for diesel fuels.

A quaternized copolymer obtainable by: (A) copolymerization of straight-chain, branched or cyclic, ethylenically unsaturated Cto Chydrocarbons, which may bear oxygen- or nitrogen-functional substituents which cannot be reacted with amines to give amides or imides or with alcohols to give esters, with ethylenically unsaturated C- to C-mono- or dicarboxylic acids or acid derivatives, which can be reacted with amines to give amides or imides or with alcohols to give esters, to give a copolymer with a number-average molecular weight of 500 to 20 000; (B) partial or full amidation or imidation or esterification of the carboxylic acid functions by reacting them with oligoamines having 2 to 6 nitrogen atoms or alcoholamines, each of which comprises primary or secondary nitrogen atom or a hydroxyl group and a quaternizable tertiary nitrogen atom; (C) partial or full quaternization of the tertiary nitrogen atom with a quaternizing agent. The quaternized copolymer thus prepared is suitable as a fuel additive in direct-injection diesel engines.

Preparation of high-reactivity isobutene homo- or copolymers with a content of terminal vinylidene double bonds per polyisobutene chain end of at least 50 mol % by polymerization of isobutene or isobutene-comprising monomer mixtures in the presence of Lewis acids suitable as polymerization catalysts or of complexes which are effective as polymerization catalysts and are formed from Lewis acids and donors, and in the presence of initiators, wherein the initiators used are organic sulfonic acids Z&#x2014;SOH in which the variable Z denotes an alkyl radical, haloalkyl radical, cycloalkyl radical, aryl radical or arylalkyl radical.

Preparation of high-reactivity isobutene homo- or copolymers with a content of terminal vinylidene double bonds per polyisobutene chain end of at least 50 mol % and a polydispersity of preferably 1.05 to less than 3.5, by polymerizing isobutene or an isobutene-comprising monomer mixture in the presence of an aluminum trihalide-donor complex effective as a polymerization catalyst or of an alkylaluminum halide-donor complex, especially of an aluminum trichloride-donor complex, said complex comprising, as the donor, an organic compound with at least one ether function or a carboxylic ester function.
