A wireless communication network serves a wireless User Equipment (UE) over wireless network slices using different handover types. The wireless communication network selects one of the wireless network slices for the wireless UE. The wireless communication network identifies one of the different handover types for the wireless UE based on the selected one of the wireless network slices. The wireless communication network serves the wireless UE over the selected one of the wireless network slices. The wireless communication network wirelessly hands-over the wireless UE from a source wireless access node to a target wireless access node using the identified one of the different handover types.

Handover control in a wireless user equipment (UE)

A wireless User Equipment (UE) uses different handover types for different user applications that are served by different wireless network slices. The wireless UE executes a selected one of the user applications and selects one of the wireless network slices to serve the selected one of the user applications. The wireless UE selects one of the handover types for the selected one of the wireless network slices. The wireless UE wirelessly exchanges application data for the selected one of the user applications with a wireless communication network. The wireless UE and the wireless communication network use the selected one of the handover types for the wireless exchange of the application data. The selected one of the wireless network slices processes the application data in the wireless communication network for the selected one of the user applications.

A wireless access node wirelessly broadcasts System Information Blocks (SIBs) that indicate individual slice characteristics for wireless network slices. A wireless UE wirelessly receives the SIBs, selects one of the slices based on user requirements for a user application and the individual slice characteristics for the slices, and transfers UE capability information that indicates the selected slice to the wireless access node. The wireless access node transfers the UE capability information to an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF). The AMF authorizes the wireless UE for the selected slice and selects Quality-of-Service (QoS) parameters for the wireless UE that correspond to the individual slice characteristics for the selected slice. The AMF transfers signaling to the wireless access node to serve the wireless UE per the selected QoS parameters. The wireless access node wirelessly exchanges user data with the wireless UE per the selected QoS parameters.

Wireless network slice selection in wireless user equipment (UE)

A method of provisioning radio resources to a user equipment (UE) by a cell site. The method comprises receiving by a cell site an indication of a UE capability from a UE, determining by the cell site a value of a network capability parameter to associate to the UE that is less than a maximum value of the network capability parameter that is compatible with the UE capability category of the UE, wherein the determining is based on a subscription service plan associated with the UE, and providing radio resources to the UE by the cell site based on the determined value of the network capability parameter, wherein the network capability parameter defines one of a radio modulation level, a carrier aggregation (CA) state, and a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) state.

Dynamic radio resource provisioning based on network capability parameter

A method of delivering content to a user equipment (UE). The method comprises collecting radio operation data by a monitor application executing on a communication processor of the UE; sending the radio operation data by the monitor application to a data analysis application executing on a computer system; analyzing the data by the data analysis application to determine a device technology of the UE, a history of high throughput radio usage of the UE, a history of medium throughput radio usage of the UE, a history of low throughput radio usage, a history of communication latency, and a history of cell sites the UE attached to; and providing a report on the UE including the device technology of the UE and the history of radio usage of the UE by the computer system to a third party for use in delivering content in a format selected based on the report.

Adaptive distribution of content

A mobile communication device that customizes a user interface of the mobile communication device based on a pre-loaded customization manifest. The device comprises a processor; a non-transitory memory; and a customization application stored in the non-transitory memory, wherein the customization application comprises data defining a plurality of customization manifests and comprises instructions that, when executed by the processor, determines that a universal integrated circuit card (UICC) has been installed, reads identity information from the UICC, wherein the identity information is associated with a wireless communication service provider, based on the identity information, selects a customization manifest that is one of the plurality of customization manifests, and writes at least some of the contents of the selected customization manifest into non-volatile (NV) parameters in the non-transitory memory, whereby a user interface of the mobile communication device is customized for use with the wireless communication service provider.

A wireless User Equipment (UE) executes a user application and wirelessly exchanges signaling with a wireless communication network over a source frequency band. The UE selects a wireless network slice responsive to the signaling. The UE selects a target frequency band and a handover type based on a characteristic of the wireless network slice. The UE requests the target frequency band and the handover type by wirelessly exchanging signaling with the wireless communication network over the source frequency band. The UE wirelessly exchanges data for the user application with the wireless communication network over the target frequency band. The wireless network slice handles the data to deliver the wireless data service to the wireless UE for the user application. The UE and the wireless communication network use the handover type to handover the wireless UE during the delivery of the wireless data service.

A wireless User Equipment (UE) executes user applications that have user requirements. The wireless UE wirelessly receives network information that indicates wireless network slices and their individual slice characteristics. The wireless UE compares the user requirements to the slice characteristics and responsively selects one or more of the wireless network slices. The wireless UE generates network signaling that indicates the selected wireless network slices. The wireless UE wirelessly transfers the network signaling.

A mobile communication device. The mobile communication device comprises a radio frequency transceiver, a processor, a memory comprising a system partition and a non-system partition, wherein the system partition comprises a hidden application, and an installer application stored in the system partition of the memory. When executed by the processor, the installer application receives a first message comprising an identity of an enterprise and a communication address of an application download service, sends a second message to the communication address received in the first message, wherein the second message comprises the identity of the enterprise received in the first message, receives a third message that comprises an enterprise application associated with the identity of the enterprise, installs the enterprise application in the system partition of memory in the place of the hidden application, and sets the status of the enterprise application to visible status.

Post-activation installation of custom applications with system privileges

A mobile communication device that adapts its usage of antennas based on a rule set and an operation context. The device comprises a plurality of antennas, a radio modem, a processor, a non-transitory memory, and a client application stored in the non-transitory memory. When executed by the processor, the application receives a biometric input for authenticating a session of a user on the device, wherein the biometric input is associated with a biometric profile, sends a request for a rule set to a server computer, and receives the rule set. The application further stores the rule set, evaluates the rule set based on the operation context to determine an antenna operation setting, and commands the radio modem to configure itself to the antenna operation setting, whereby the radio modem is restricted from using all of the plurality of antennas at the same time in at least some operation contexts.

Adapting wireless communication device antenna selection based on user identity and operation context

A mobile communication device that replenishes and manages ads to display on an active application. The mobile communication device comprises a radio transceiver, a processor, a memory, a plurality of applications, stored in the memory, wherein each application comprises an ad client, and an ad manager, stored in the memory. The ad manager, when executed by the processor, requests a plurality of ads from an ad gateway associated with the network associated with the mobile communication device. The ad manager then receives a plurality of ads from the ad gateway. The ad manager then stores these ads into an ad cache, embedded within the memory of the mobile communication device. The ad manager receives a request from an ad client of one of the applications for an ad to display. The ad manager sends an ad selected from the ad cache to the ad client in the active application.

A wireless communication device may be operated to facilitate directing user applications to use WLAN data connections. One of the user applications generates an application request for a URI, and a browser application requests a translation of the URI into an IP address. An LTE transceiver exchanges wireless data with an LTE network to translate the URI into the IP address. A WLAN transceiver detects a WLAN data connection. The browser application identifies that the LTE transceiver is exchanging wireless data with the LTE network and that the WLAN data connection is detected, and responsively processes a WLAN identifier for the WLAN data connection and an application identifier for the user application to determine if a user WLAN notice should be presented. If the WLAN notice should be presented, the browser application generates the user WLAN notice. The user WLAN notice is displayed to the user on a graphical display.

A display adjusting component is contained within the sending client, which adjusts the image of the object to be appropriately displayed to one or more receiving clients. The receiving clients also contain a display adjusting component, which can further adjust the image of the object to be displayed, as necessary. The multimedia conferencing server of the video conferencing system also contains a display adjusting component, which negotiates parameters of the sending and receiving clients. Any of the display adjusting components can function alone, or in any combination together. A method, and computer-readable media which contain computer-readable instructions to perform a method, of adjusting an image for video conference display are also described.

A mobile device comprising a long-range radio transceiver, a first short-range radio transceiver, a processor, a memory, and an application stored in the memory. The application, when executed by the processor, detects an event and in response to detecting the event, selects a reference to a second communication device stored in the memory based on a current location of the mobile communication device, wherein the second communication device comprises a second short-range radio transceiver configured for communication with the first short-range radio transceiver. The application further transmits a redirect message via the long-range radio transceiver to a redirect server application executing on a computer system, wherein the redirect message comprises the reference to the second communication device, whereby voice calls directed to the long-range radio transceiver are redirected to the first short-range radio transceiver via the second short-range radio transceiver of the second communication device.
