A superhydrophobic coating composition is provided comprising an NP component and a radical initiator (RI), wherein the NP component comprises NP particles having organic moieties bound to the surface of the NP particles. Also provided is a superhydrophobic coating composition further comprising a fluid. Also provided is a method for preparing a super-hydrophobic (SH) surface, where the method includes mixing an NP component with at least one RI and possibly with a fluid, thereby providing a coating composition, applying the coating composition onto a substrate (pre-coated or containing oxides) thereby providing a coated substrate; and applying radiation to the coated substrate, thereby providing the SH surface on which at least part of the NP component is covalently bound, directly or indirectly, to the substrate.

Durable superhydrophobic coating

An object has a superhydrophic, self-cleaning, and icephobic coating includes a substrate and a layer disposed on the substrate, the layer resulting from coating with a formulation having an effective amount of microstructuring microparticles, liquid silane having one or more groups configured to graft to a microstructuring microparticle and at least another group that results in hydrophobicity. The microstructuring microparticles are dispersed in the liquid silane. Another effective amount of synthetic adhesive, selected from thermosetting adhesives, moisture curing adhesives or polymers that form a strong interaction with a surface, is in solution with a solvent. Upon curing, the layer has a contact angle greater than 90&#xb0; and a sliding angle of less than 10&#xb0; and, less than 5% of an area of the layer is removed in a Tape test.

Methods and formulations for superhydrophic, self-cleaning, and icephobic polymer coatings and objects having coatings thereon

An object has a durable superhydrophic, self-cleaning, and icephobic coating includes a substrate and a layer disposed on the substrate, the layer resulting from coating with a formulation having an effective amount of hierarchical structuring micro/nanoparticles, liquid silane having one or more groups configured to graft to a hierarchical structuring micro/nanoparticle and at least another group that results in hydrophobicity. The hierarchical structuring micro/nanoparticles are dispersed in the liquid silane. Another effective amount of synthetic adhesive, selected from thermosetting binders, moisture curing adhesives or polymers that form a strong interaction with a surface, is in solution with a solvent. Upon curing, the layer has a contact angle greater than 90&#xb0; and a sliding angle of less than 10&#xb0; and, less than 5% of an area of the layer is removed in a Tape test.

Methods and formulations for durable superhydrophic, self-cleaning, and superhydrophobic polymer coatings and objects having coatings thereon

A piezoelectric vibrator comprising: a thin rectangular piezoelectric plate formed of a material having a Young's modulus having two short edge surfaces and two long edge surfaces and two large planar face surfaces which plate has transverse resonant vibration modes parallel to its short edges and longitudinal resonant vibration modes parallel to its long edges and is formed with at least one cavity; and at least one electrode on each of the planar surfaces that is electrifiable to excite at least one vibration mode of the plate, wherein the at least one cavity is not filled with a material having a Young's modulus substantially equal to the Young's modulus of the material from which the plate is formed, such that the presence of the at least one cavity shifts a resonant frequency of at least one vibration mode of the plate with respect to the resonant frequency that characterizes the at least one vibration mode in the absence of the at least one cavity.

Resonance shifting

A piezoelectric motor comprising: a piezoelectric vibrator () having a surface comprising a localized non-planar shaped first surface region thereon which first surface region has a shape different from the shape of the surface on which it is located; and a friction nub () formed with a second surface region that is substantially a negative relief of the first surface region, which first and second regions are bonded together. Preferably the friction nub () is detachably mounted to the vibrator () via a boss () waving a protuberance () of conical shape. Alternatively the friction nub () has a protuberance () which is form-fitted to a recess () in the vibrator () or boss (), respectively. First and second surface regions can also be threading surfaces.

Replaceable friction coupling for piezoelectric motors
