A system and method for securely sharing metadata among virtualized network functions (VNFs) disposed within a cluster of host computers includes a distributed forwarding and metadata sharing (DFMS) framework that forwards received data packets and provides remote direct memory access (RDMA) enabled sharing of secured metadata among the VNFs from more than one host computer in the cluster of host computers, and a DFMS controller that resides in the cluster of host computers as a VNF and registers VNFs in the cluster to at least one group of VNFs in the cluster and assigns access rights to the metadata of VNFs within respective groups of VNFs in the cluster. In operation, each registered VNF in a group in the cluster uses RDMA requests to access the metadata for other registered VNFs in the group in the cluster to which the each registered VNF in the group has access rights.

According to one aspect of the present disclosure, there is provided a computer-implemented method for dynamically allocating edge computing resources. The method can include receiving, in an edge computing center, a request for using the edge computing resources to perform a secondary task for a secondary edge service, allocating the edge computing resources to the secondary edge service if the edge computing resources are available, and in response to an increase in a primary edge services workload, reallocating at least a portion of the edge computing resources from the secondary edge service to the primary edge services if the edge computing resources are insufficient for performing the primary edge services.

Non-intrusive mechanism to measure network function packet processing delay

Systems and methods are provided for recognition of an application in communication traffic flow in a network using an artificial intelligence (AI) based hierarchical service awareness engine. A decode equivalent class (DEC) can be used to provide information on the application. A DEC corresponds to a class of traffic that is mapped to an artificial intelligence (AI) model associated with parameters related to the class of traffic. DEC information can be fed to an AI model set and an inference model can be derived from a AI model of the AI model set corresponding to a DEC. The inference model can be provided to a gateway of the network to recognize a specific application of a service in communication flows. In various embodiments, in training the AI models, the gateway can provide DEC information for the AI model set from classifying flows of data traffic received from the network into DECs.

A protocol independent network condition service (PINCS) apparatus is provided, comprising a memory storage comprising instructions and one or more processors in communication with the memory. Method and apparatus for reducing network latency

Interruptions in communication due to user equipment (UE) handovers (HO) are signaled from the mobile communication network to the traffic source. For ultra-low latency and reliable communication, the signaling of HO start and completion notifications prevents retransmissions of in-flight packets by the traffic source, eliminating additional delays and inefficiencies. Signaling can be implemented by a network element, by a network element in conjunction with a smart traffic handler between the network and the traffic source (e.g., applications) and by a UE having at least two different radio interfaces.

A transmitting virtual reality (VR) content method is disclosed that includes receive, by a network element, VR content packets transmitted by a VR content server for a single VR content scene and quality of service (QoS) transmission priorities for the VR content packets, wherein the QoS transmission priorities comprise a first QoS transmission priority corresponding to a first plurality of the VR content packets and a second QoS transmission priority corresponding to a second plurality of the VR content packets. A computer-implemented method for processing a data packet in a communication network includes receiving, at a private Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) data center, the data packet. The private MEC data center hosts one or more virtual Evolved Packet Core (EPC) gateways, and each of the one or more virtual Evolved Packet Core (EPC) gateways corresponds to one or more respective Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) service providers. The private MEC data center identifies a traffic routing type for the data packet. The private MEC data center transmits the data packet based on the identified traffic routing type.
