A method for controlling a network of inverter-based resources connected to a power grid during a disturbance includes employing a distributed transient virtual impedance algorithm among the network of inverter-based resources (IBRs) after a start of or in anticipation of the disturbance. The distributed transient virtual impedance algorithm includes determining, via at least one of one or more power flow equations, one or more energy function equations, and one or more estimated power capabilities, a virtual impedance control parameter and a modified power reference for one or more of the IBRs. Further, the method includes activating the virtual impedance control parameter and the modified power reference for one or more of the IBRs to ride through the disturbance in a manner that also optimizes use of the one or more estimated power capabilities for one or more of the IBRs and that preserves synchronism between at least two of the inverter-based resources and/or between at least one of the inverter-based resources and the power grid. Thus, the virtual impedance control parameter temporarily reduces voltage proportionally with output current for one or more of the IBRs, thereby resulting in a reduction of local power output of one or more of the IBRs.

Transient control for a network of distributed grid forming inverter-based resources

A decentralized electrical power allocation system is provided. The system includes a power bus, electric power consumers, and at least two power source assemblies. Each power source assembly includes a power controller and a power source. Each power controller is configured to execute an adaptive droop control scheme so as to cause their respective power sources to output power to meet a power demand on the power bus applied by the power consumers. The power output of a given power source is controlled based at least in part on correlating a power feedback of the given power source with a droop function that represents an efficiency of the given power source to generate electrical power for a given power output. The droop functions are collaboratively defined so that one power source shares more output at lower power levels while another power source shares more output at higher power levels.

Decentralized electrical power allocation system

A method for operating an asynchronous doubly-fed wind turbine generator connected to a power grid in a grid-forming mode to emulate a virtual synchronous machine. The doubly-fed wind turbine generator includes a line-side converter coupled to a rotor-side converter via a direct current (DC) link. The method includes receiving, via a controller, at least one reference command from an external controller. The method also includes controlling rotor flux of the doubly-fed wind turbine generator using the at least one reference command. Further, the method includes providing power droop control for the doubly-fed wind turbine generator through at least one of rotor-side reference frame rotation and d-axis flux control.

Method for operating doubly-fed wind turbine generator as a virtual synchronous machine to provide grid-forming control thereof

Some embodiments provide a system to protect an electric vehicle charging infrastructure. An electric vehicle charging site may receive Alternating Current ('AC') power from a power grid and provides Direct Current ('DC') power to electric vehicles. A sensor spoof observer and controller may receive information from at least two AC current sensors, wherein the observer calculates a grid voltage disturbance using a structure based on an AC filter dynamic model. A system stability assurance platform may: (i) monitor current and voltage to detect resonance, (ii) identify impedance associated with a detected resonance, and (iii) apply a result of an analysis of the identified impedance to an adaptive damping control algorithm. A user interface platform may then provide information about a component of the charging infrastructure being cyber-attacked to a distribution system operator via a graphical user interface display.
