Anode active materials for lithium secondary batteries are provided. According to embodiments of the present disclosure, an anode active material includes: i) a first composite including at least two active silicon materials having different crystal sizes and a silicon oxide (SiO) material (wherein 0<x≤2); ii) a second composite including an active silicon material having a crystal size of about 24 nm or greater and a silicon oxide (SiO) material (wherein 0<x≤2), mixed with a carbonaceous material; or a mixture or combination of (i) and (ii). A lithium secondary battery is provided including an anode including any one of the anode active materials.

Anode active materials for lithium secondary batteries are provided. According to embodiments of the present disclosure, an anode active material includes: i) a first composite including at least two active silicon materials having different crystal sizes and a silicon oxide (SiO) material (wherein 0&#x3c;x&#x2264;2); ii) a second composite including an active silicon material having a crystal size of about 24 nm or greater and a silicon oxide (SiO) material(wherein 0&#x3c;x&#x2264;2), mixed with a carbonaceous material; or a mixture or combination of (i) and (ii). A lithium secondary battery is provided including an anode including any one of the anode active materials.

Provided are a negative active material, an anode and a lithium secondary battery including the same, and a method of preparing the negative active material. The negative active material includes a silicon alloy core including silicon, iron, and manganese, and a shell including a metal oxide on the silicon alloy core, the metal oxide including one or more of titanium, zirconium, aluminum, cobalt, or lithium. An amount of the metal oxide may be from greater than 0 wt % to less than about 12 wt % based on a total weight of the negative active material.

A negative active material includes a silicon-based alloy, and the silicon-based alloy includes a Si single phase, a FeSialpha phase, and a FeSibeta phase, wherein an intensity ratio of a second diffraction peak of the FeSibeta phase to a first diffraction peak of the FeSialpha phase may be 0.1 or higher. A negative electrode includes the negative active material and a lithium battery includes the negative electrode. Lifespan characteristics of the lithium battery including the negative active material may improve.

A negative active material for a lithium secondary battery and a lithium secondary battery including the same are provided. The negative active material may be a silicon (Si)-based alloy negative active material. In some embodiments, the Si-based alloy negative active material may include Si, iron (Fe), copper (Cu), and aluminum (Al), and may have a Si single phase and a first alloy phase, the first alloy phase being represented by a formula of AlCu, where x&#x3c;y. In some embodiments, the Si-based alloy negative active material may include Si, Fe, and Cu, and may include a Si single phase, a first alloy phase, and a second alloy phase, the first alloy phase being represented by a formula of CuSi, and the second alloy phase being represented by a formula of CuFe.

A negative electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery including silicon (Si), manganese (Mn), Component A including at least one selected from iron (Fe), molybdenum (Mo), chromium (Cr), zinc (Zn), titanium (Ti), nickel (Ni), vanadium (V), tungsten (W), and yttrium (Y), and Component B including at least one selected from carbon (C), boron (B), oxygen (O), nitrogen (N), phosphorous (P), and sulfur (S), wherein a total amount of Si, Mn, and Component A is about 70 atom % or less, an amount of Component B is 30 atom % or more, and a total amount of Mn and Component A is in a range of about 10 atom % to about 35 atom %.

A negative active material includes a silicon-based alloy, wherein the silicon-based alloy includes silicon (Si); a first metal (M) selected from titanium (Ti), vanadium (V), chromium (Cr), iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), gallium (Ga), and germanium (Ge), and at least one additional element (A), which is included in the silicon-based alloy and on a surface of silicon-based alloy, selected from carbon (C), boron (B), sodium (Na), nitrogen (N), phosphorous (P), sulfur (S), and chlorine (Cl), and the silicon-based alloy has an internal porosity of about 35% or less. A lithium battery including the negative active material may have improved lifespan characteristics.
