A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display panel having a thin film transistor connected to a gate line and a data line on a substrate, a pixel electrode connected to the thin film transistor, a common electrode for forming a horizontal electric field with the pixel electrode, a common line connected to the common electrode and parallel to the gate line, and a storage line parallel to the gate line and having a portion overlapping the pixel electrode with at least one insulating film therebetween to form a storage capacitor, a gate driver for supplying a scan pulse to the gate line, a data driver for supplying a pixel voltage signal to the data line, a common driver for supplying a common voltage signal to the common line, and a storage driver for supplying a storage voltage signal to a storage line.

Liquid crystal display device and driving method thereof

An LCD device, and a fabrication method thereof, having a high aperture ratio and a high optical transmittance that enhances a fabrication yield and reduces the number of masks required in a fabrication process are disclosed. A transflective type liquid crystal display (LCD) device and method for manufacturing the same is disclosed, in which it is possible to decrease manufacturing cost and improve yield by decreasing the number of masks. The transflective type LCD device includes a substrate having reflection and transmission regions, a first insulating layer on an entire surface of the substrate whereon gate and storage electrodes are formed at predetermined portions, a transparent electrode overlapped with the storage electrode and formed over the transmission region of the first insulating layer, and a second insulating layer formed over the reflection region of the substrate and having a contact hole for exposing a predetermined portion of the transparent electrode.
