The present invention provides methods and compositions for the treatment of ion imbalances using core-shell composites and compositions comprising such core-shell composites. In particular, the invention provides core-shell particles and compositions comprising potassium binding polymers, and core-shell particles and compositions comprising sodium binding polymers, and in each case, pharmaceutical compositions thereof. Methods of use of the polymeric and pharmaceutical compositions for therapeutic and/or prophylactic benefits are also disclosed. The compositions and methods of the invention offer improved approaches for treatment of hyperkalemia and other indications related to potassium ion homeostasis, and for treatment of hypertension and other indicates related to sodium ion homeostasis.

Methods and compositions for selectively removing potassium ion from the gastrointestinal tract of a mammal

The present invention provides methods and compositions for the treatment of ion imbalances. In particular, the invention provides compositions comprising potassium binding polymers and pharmaceutical compositions thereof. Methods of use of the polymeric and pharmaceutical compositions for therapeutic and/or prophylactic benefits are disclosed herein. Examples of these methods include the treatment of hyperkalemia, such as hyperkalemia caused by renal failure and/or the use of hyperkalemia causing drugs.

Ion binding polymers and uses thereof

The present disclosure is directed to polymeric beads, methods of making the beads, and methods of using the beads as high-capacity anion exchange materials. In particular, the disclosure provides polymeric beads comprising a cross-linked polyamine and having a crush strength of about 250 g/bead or more. Preferably, the beads are substantially spherical. Also disclosed are polymeric beads comprising a cross-linked polyamine that has a substantial number of both strong base sites and weak base sites. Methods of using the polymeric beads in various industrial applications, such as groundwater remediation, radio waste management, municipal wastewater management, demineralization, toxin removal, mining, food refinery, research, agriculture, and the like, are also disclosed herein.

High-capacity anion exchange materials

Methods and systems for coupling ultrasound to the body, including to the head, are disclosed. The system is optionally configured to transmit ultrasound energy for transcranial ultrasound neuromodulation. Couplant assemblies are described that incorporate a semi-solid component that interfaces directly to the user's body and face of the ultrasound transducer. These couplant assemblies can be shaped, molded, or otherwise machined and, in some embodiments, contain one or more liquid, gel, or other non-solid component in an enclosed reservoir of the couplant assembly. Beneficial embodiments of ultrasound coupling assemblies described herein include those that conform to the contour of the user's body (e.g. the user's head for transcranial applications) and can easily be removed without leaving a messy residue. By having solid materials physically contacting the body, no residue is left that requires cleanup.
