A method for Symbol Error Rate (SER) approximation of an SER-based transmission power allocation operation for an Orthogonal Space Time Block Code in a DWCS equipped with multiple transmission Distributed Antennas (DA) geographically dispersed at random. The method for SER approximation includes the steps of: setting multiple combinable antenna subsets from the multiple DAs; selecting a quasi-optimal antenna subset A(1&#x2266;g&#x2266;2&#x2212;1) having a quasi-optimal power allocation weight wbased on predetermined power allocation, for each of the set multiple antenna subsets; and calculating an SER approximation value of the selected quasi-optimal antenna subset by applying a Probability Density Function (PDF) of a Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) to the OSTBC SER having symbol constellation of a predetermined modulation scheme. The output of the SER approximation value can be output to a transmitter, or to a space-time encoder of a central processor for optimal power transmission.

Method for SER approximation for OSTBC in distributed wire communication systems

Disclosed is a device for allocating transmission power using a symbol error rate (SER) for orthogonal space-time block codes (OSTBC) in a wireless communication system. The device includes: a plurality of antennas, which are distributed geographically and independently linked to a central processing unit; a receiver to select an optimum subset of the SER performance, using a preset power allocation to each of available antenna subset combinations, and sending the selected subset to a transmitter; and a central processing unit to allocate power by applying an OSTBC symbol having a unit average power to the optimum subset from the receiver.

Method of allocating transmission power based on symbol error rate for orthogonal space-time block codes in a distributed wireless communication system

A wired relay method for using a remote station and an apparatus thereof for a Radio over Fiber (RoF) wired relay system supporting a Time Division Duplexing (TDD) wireless communication service, which shares an Low-Noise Amplifier (LNA) for both uplink and downlink operations. The remote station includes a block for dividing each of a downlink optical signal carrying service data and an optical signal carrying transmission/reception control information of the RoF wired relay system, which are input from a base station, a gain controller for separating an uplink Radio Frequency (RF) signal input from an antenna or a portion of a downlink RF signal output from a High-Power Amplifier (HPA) and for monitoring the strength of the input and output RF signals in order to control a gain of the LNA. A converter mutually converts an optical signal and an RF signal, an amplifier amplifies the converted RF signal, and an RF signal flow controller automatically controls uplink and downlink transmission paths of the amplified RF signal according to a transmission/reception status of the RoF wired relay system.

A radio over fiber link apparatus for transmitting/receiving radio frequency up/downlink signals in a TDD mobile communication system. The radio over fiber link apparatus includes a center site for receiving radio frequency signals from an access point of the mobile communication system. The center site has a first electro-optic converter for converting the radio frequency signals into optical signals, bias control of the first electro-optic converter being performed based on the switching of TDD signals; and a remote for transmitting the radio frequency signals to a mobile communication terminal through an antenna. An apparatus that adaptively allocates transmission power for beam-forming combined with orthogonal space time block codes in a distributed wireless communication system, the apparatus including: sub-arrays for beam-forming, which are geographically distributed and each of which includes a plurality of distributed antennas placed in random groups. A central processing unit provides predetermined combinable power allocation schemes according to subsets in a plurality of the sub-arrays, identifying performances of the schemes by using information on large-scale fading of each of the sub-arrays fed back from a receiving party, setting a subset having best performance as an optimal subset according to the identified performances, and performing power allocation according thereto.

Disclosed is a radio-over-fiber (ROF) system for supporting various services, the system comprising: a central access platform (CAP) for providing time division duplexing (TDD), frequency division duplexing (FDD), and broadcasting services, converting a TDD downward signal and FDD/broadcasting downward signals into optical signals, respectively, transmitting the converted optical signals to a remote access unit (RAU), converting a TDD upward signal and an FDD upward signal, which have been transmitted as optical signals from the RAU, into electric signals, respectively, and using an optical circulator in order to separate upward and downward signals from each other; and the RAU for converting the TDD downward signal and FDD/broadcasting downward signals transmitted from the CAP into electric signals, respectively, converting the TDD upward signal and FDD upward signal to be transmitted to the CAP into optical signals, respectively, and using an optical circulator in order to separate upward and downward signals from each other, wherein the RAU includes a plurality of signal filtering/separating/combining units, which wirelessly emit the TDD downward signal and FDD/broadcasting downward signals, having been converted into electric signals, through an antenna, and which separate wirelessly-received TDD upward signal and FDD upward signal from each other.

In addition to a drive amplifier, a Mach-Zehnder-interferometer-type optical intensity modulator (MZ MOD), and a laser source for generating a carrier wave, the duobinary optical transmission apparatus further includes a toggle flip-flop (T.FF) and an AND gate to separate a group of '1' from input data signal in such a way that the input data signal is modulated to make each signal have a different phase.

A duo-binary encoder performs a parallel processing and an optical duo-binary transmission apparatus using the encoder to enhance transmission capability. The duo-binary encoder has a judgment unit for judging whether an odd number or even number of '0's exists in data input signals of N channels, a toggle unit for toggling an output signal of the judgment unit when a number of '0's is even, an intermediate signal generation unit for determining whether phases of other channels are shifted or not, according to an data input signal on the basis of a predetermined channel of the N channels. A phase division unit divides data into a first data group having non-shifted phases and a second group of data that require a phase shift, according to an output signal of the intermediate signal generation unit and the data input signal. The divided first and second data groups are then output.

Duo-binary encoder and optical duo-binary transmission apparatus using the same

A duobinary optical transmission apparatus is provided to generate duobinary optical signals, without using an electric low-pass-filter (LPF), by restricting a bandwidth of a Mach-Zehnder-interferometer-type optical intensity modulator (MZ MOD). Alternatively, a LPF having a single pole with a single capacitor is implemented instead of an expensive LPF, thereby providing a simple transmitter with a lower production cost in comparison with a transmitter using a conventional electric LPF.
