Disclosed is a polyvinyl chloride resin latex which is prepared by polymerization using a decreased amount of polymerization water in an early polymerization stage and then additional polymerization water in a late polymerization stage, so that the polyvinyl chloride resin latex has an increased solid content and a decreased water content and thus finally remarkably reduces energy consumption in a spray drying process.

Vinyl chloride latex with low energy consumption and method for preparing the same

Disclosed is a method for preparing a vinyl chloride seed, comprising adding a vinyl chloride monomer, an emulsifier and a polymerization initiator to an aqueous medium, homogenizing droplets using a homogenizer pump, and polymerizing the homogenized droplets. The method provides a more stable latex by minimizing residual monomers by performing polymerization after adding a higher aliphatic alcohol serving as a monomer absorption enhancer and then performing homogenization, and additionally, improves productivity and reduces amount of scale generated by increasing the efficiency of monomer consumption during polymerization. Further, by applying the vinyl chloride-based seed to seed emulsion polymerization of vinyl chloride resins, polymer reactivity is improved, the reaction time of the seed emulsion polymerization is effectively reduced, the sizes of small and large particles are controlled and the particle diameter of the vinyl chloride resin is thus controlled.

The present invention relates to a large-sized vinyl chloride seed with an average particle size of 0.65 to 1.5 &#x3bc;m, a vinyl chloride resin with improved low-viscosity properties, and preparation methods thereof. The preparation of the large-sized vinyl chloride seed includes adding a vinyl chloride monomer, an emulsifier, and a polymerization initiator to an aqueous medium; homogenizing the mixed solution using a rotor-stator type homogenizer; and subjecting the resultant monomer droplets to a polymerization reaction.

Provided are a vinyl chloride-based resin formed by polymerization of vinyl chloride-based small seed particles having an average particle diameter range of 0.15 &#x3bc;m to 0.5 &#x3bc;m prepared by emulsion polymerization and vinyl chloride-based large seed particles having an average particle diameter range of 0.51 &#x3bc;m to 0.8 &#x3bc;m prepared by micro-suspension polymerization, in which a content ratio (weight ratio) of the large seed particles to the small seed particles is in a range of 1 to 2, and a method of preparing the vinyl chloride-based resin. Excellent low viscosity characteristics of the vinyl chloride resin at high and low shear rates may be obtained by controlling the particle size of the small seed prepared by emulsion polymerization.
