A display apparatus and a brightness adjusting method thereof are provided. The display apparatus includes a panel unit which displays an image signal, a backlight unit which provides a light to the panel unit to visualize the image signal, a luminance value regulator which calculates representative values to be applied for adjusting a brightness of a plurality of partial areas of the backlight unit corresponding to the input image signal, a contrast enhancer which compensates for a brightness of the image signal compromised by the representative value through a contrast enhancement, and a pixel value compensator which compensates for pixel values of the image signal compensated using the contrast enhancement. Accordingly, the contrast ratio of the entire image can be enhanced by compensating for the brightness loss of the image signal caused from the brightness adjustment of the luminous element, and the image quality can be more finely improved.

Display apparatus and brightness adjusting method thereof

A method of improving image quality and the display apparatus thereof are provided. The method includes generating a plurality of sub-frame images using a frame image depending on whether the frame image is a moving image or a still image and displaying the plurality of sub-frame images sequentially for a frame time interval of the frame image. By generating the plurality of sub-frame image which have different pixel values each other and displaying the plurality of sub-frame image sequentially, the sticking phenomenon may be prevented and a life time of the display apparatus may be extended.

Method for improving image quality and display apparatus

A display apparatus and a method for adjusting brightness thereof are provided. The display apparatus includes a panel unit which displays a video signal, a light emitting unit which provides the panel unit with a ray of light and causes the video signal to be visualized, a light emission control unit which controls the light emitting unit so that the ray of light is provided to each of local areas of the panel unit, and a panel control unit which compensates pixels of the video signal in each of local areas, to remove an artifact which is generated due to the ray of light provided to local areas of the panel unit. Because brightness of a screen is adjusted in each of local areas, contrast ratio is enhanced, and improved image quality is provided.

Display apparatus and method for adjusting brightness thereof

The present invention relates to a display apparatus comprising a display panel; a controller to analyze input video data into frequency components, and create first and second video data different in the frequency component from each other on the basis of analyzed results; and a panel driver to drive the created first and second video data to be displayed in sequence as images on the display panel. Thus, the present invention provides a display apparatus and a control method thereof, in which first video data and second video data are created by analyzing a frequency component of input video data and output in sequence, thereby decreasing a motion blur through a simple operation without hardware change.
