An absorbent article is disclosed including a fluid and vapor pervious combination sheet having a shape defining a longitudinal axis, a minimum lateral dimension and a maximum lateral dimension, and a containment assembly having a shape defining a maximum lateral dimension which is less than the maximum lateral dimension of the combination sheet. The containment assembly includes a central, fluid permeable portion of the combination sheet; a fluid impermeable backing film disposed beneath the combination sheet; and an absorbent core sandwiched between the central portion of the combination sheet and the backing film. The containment assembly is integrally attached to the combination sheet along the longitudinal axis, and the combination sheet forms a plurality of breathable regions laterally disposed beyond the containment assembly. The backing film forms at least a portion of a stay away zone that resists engagement by the laterally disposed breathable regions.

Skin friendly diaper

A disposable absorbent article is disclosed having a wide breathable backsheet formed of a single layer of material, preferably in an hourglass configuration, and a narrow containment assembly attached to the backsheet along its longitudinal axis. The placement of the containment assembly creates two regions on either side of the backsheet which form wings which extend laterally beyond the margins of the containment assembly. Fasteners provided on the wings permit attachment of the wings together to form breathable side panels. The fasteners may be configured to engage limited areas of the backsheet and to resist engagement of other areas thereof. The containment assembly comprises a pervious topsheet and an impervious backing film sandwiching an absorbent core. The backing film is generally as narrow as the top sheet, maximizing the breathable area of the absorbent article, and minimizing the use of environmentally persistent plastic films.

An absorbent article including a front waist region having an inner surface, and outer surface, a first lateral end portion and a second lateral end portion, a back waist region having an inner surface, and outer surface, a first lateral end portion and a second lateral end portion, a crotch portion longitudinally connecting the front and back waist regions, and at least one fastener disposed at each of the first and second lateral end portions of the back waist region or the front waist region. The at least one fastener includes a backing layer having a first end portion permanently attached to the back waist region or the front waist region and a second end portion opposite the first end portion, an adhesive layer disposed over at least a portion of the backing layer, a fastening material layer disposed over the adhesive layer at the second end portion of the backing layer, and an outer surface that is free of adhesive to form an adhesive-free region, wherein a fold is formed in the adhesive-free region.

An absorbent article is provided having a back waist portion with a fibrous outer surface and two lateral ends, a front waist portion with a fibrous outer surface and two lateral ends adjacent the lateral ends of the back waist portion, two prefolded nonwoven connectors each connecting two adjacent ends of the back waist portion and the front waist portion, and a hook fastener prefastened to one of said nonwoven connectors such that the prefastened hook is pre-engaged with the outer fibrous surface of the front waist region. Each nonwoven connector may be folded n times wherein n is an integer of front 2 to 30. The front and back lateral edges may be folded over the top surface of said article, and secured in place by a securement means.

Disposable pant type absorbent article having improved multifold fastening system and method of making same

A disposable absorbent article such as, e.g., a T-shaped diaper comprising two portions, a lateral portion (backwaist) having two lateral segments or wings for wrapping around the waist of a wearer of the diaper, and a second vertical portion or insert which is adapted to be passed under the crotch of the wearer and folded thereover. A uniquely designed tape tab located at the outer lateral end of one wing assures more perfect and comfortable fit. Tape tabs are also provided at the distal ends of vertical portion for engagement onto landing zones disposed on the surface of each wing. These tape tabs may have the same general construction as the tape tab on the diaper wing. The dimensions of the diaper and several of its components and the relative locations of these components are important factors which contribute to improved fitness and functions of the diaper.

Absorbent articles having improved fastening system

A disposable sanitary absorbent article such as an absorbent pad (e.g., male guard) is provided which is defined by opposed lateral sides and opposed longitudinal sides extending between said lateral side, comprising a topsheet, a backsheet and an absorbent core disposed therebetween having opposed lateral sides and opposed longitudinal sides extending between said lateral sides of said absorbent core, an adhesive layer attached to said backsheet and a release paper strip covering the adhesive layer. The longitudinal sides or edges of the pad define side flaps outwardly relative to the longitudinal sides of the absorbent core, and at least two spaced apart elastic members are secured along each longitudinal side flap, with each elastic member having two active ends, at least one of which is located outwardly relative to the corresponding end of the adhesive layer.

A method is provided for continuous mass production of winged absorbent articles, including T-shaped absorbent articles, by attachment of wing portions to the chassis of the absorbent article which comprises a topsheet, a backsheet and a core sandwiched between the topsheet and the backsheet. The method comprises feeding at least one web of wing-making material, which may be at least partly elasticated, simultaneously attaching landing zones in spaced apart relationship on a surface of the web, attaching tape tabs on the edge of the web, folding the web longitudinally in a generally Z-fold configuration, feeding the chassis of the absorbent article in the general direction of the web, severing individual folded wing portions from said web and attaching the winged portions to the chassis at predetermined spaced intervals.

A disposable absorbent article is provided comprising a liquid absorbent pad having a large single through slit designed to control fluid surge and minimize fluid leakage when fluid is discharged suddenly during the use of the article.

A ready-to-wear pull-up type absorbent article such as a diaper is provided which has a waist region comprising a front waist region and a back waist region, and a pair of complimentary fasteners in the respective regions. The front waist region comprises a pair of loop fasteners and the back waist region comprises a pair of hook strips each aligned for releasable engagement with a corresponding loop strip in the front waist region. In lieu of hook strips, the back waist region may include one or more tape tabs each having one surface attached to the back waist region and an opposed hook surface for releasable engagement with a correspondingly aligned loop surface. A weakened line, e.g., a perforated line may be provided in the front waist region which can be readily torn away in order to inspect the diaper. The front and back waist regions may include side seals which can be secured together when the diaper is in assembled ready-to-wear condition and which can be readily torn or peeled in order to inspect the diaper when desired without disengaging the fasteners.
