A vented wound dressing is disclosed comprising a thin conformable sheet material at least a portion of the surface area of which is intended for placement as a dressing over a wound, which portion carries a pressure-sensitive adhesive coating on one surface thereof for adhering the dressing to skin, the coating being applied to provide repeating areas of the sheet material containing no adhesive, at least a portion of the repeating areas of no adhesive having slits extending through the thickness thereof to permit transfer of wound fluids through the sheet material unimpeded by presence of adhesive material which can clog the slits and thereby inhibit fluid transfer therethrough.

Vented wound dressing

Novel breathable disposable diapers of per se known configuration comprising a back sheet having a crotch portion and corner portions or wings adapted for engaging the waist and stomach of the wearer, the corner portions being both air-and liquid-permeable, the crotch portion of the back sheet comprising a a liquid-impermeable sheet material carrying an absorbent pad for receiving and retaining body waste materials with the side edges of the sheet material extending around and over the side edges of the pad, whereby to provide a barrier preventing the waste material from escaping through the back of the diaper or through the side edges of the pad. Preferably, a permeable cover or front sheet, is also provided, the absorbent pad in the crotch portion being sandwiched between the cover and liquid-impermeable sheets.

Breathable disposable diapers

A disposable diaper having a backing sheet having a crotch portion, an absorbent pad having a pair of opposed side edges, and a liquid impervious barrier sheet having side margins extending around the side edges of the pad, such that the barrier sheet provides a barrier preventing waste material from escaping through the back of the diaper or through the side edges of the pad.

Disclosed is a vented dressing comprising a thin conformable vapor-permeable, liquid-impermeable sheet material having a generally centrally disposed wound-covering portion for placement directly over the wound and a peripheral portion defining the central portion and which is intended to be secured to the whole skin surrounding the wound, the sheet material having a coating of a pressure-sensitive adhesive extending substantially entirely over one surface thereof for adhering the dressing to the body, the adhesive coating being applied so as to provide repeating areas containing no adhesive, areas of the wound-covering portion of the sheet material where there is no adhesive having slits extending through the thickness thereof to permit venting of wound fluids therethrough, the areas of no adhesive in peripheral portion being free of any slits whereby passage of wound fluids therethrough is precluded, the peripheral areas of the sheet material having no adhesive however permitting vapor transmission therethrough whereby to inhibit maceration of the skin beneath the peripheral areas.

An elastic band comprising a plurality of spaced elastic members and a pair of flexible sheet materials on opposed sides of the elastic members, the elastic members being secured in a stretched position to each of said flexible sheet materials.

Disclosed is a wound dressing consisting of a primary dressing for placement on the skin to cover a wound and an overlying secondary dressing containing an absorbent pad for receiving and retaining wound fluids diffusing thereto from the underlying wound and primary dressing, the secondary dressing being releasably secured to the primary dressing around their common periphery by a pressure-sensitive adhesive, at least the peripheral outer surface of the primary dressing having a release coating whereby to facilitate removal and replacement of the secondary dressing without disturbing the primary dressing or the healing wound therebeneath.

Composite vented wound dressing

An improved coversheet material for use in multi-layer boards. The improvement comprises a layer of continuous filament and a layer of fibrous web. The fibrous web is a blend of thermoplastic fibers. The thermoplastic fibers are high melt point fibers and low melt point fibers. The layer of continuous filament and the layer of fibrous web are bonded together by passing the layers between a pair of heated rolls which are under pressure. As the heat from the rolls melts the low melt point fibers, the pressure exerted on the rolls puts the melted fibers into contact with the high melt point fibers and the layer of continuous filament. As the melted fibers cool they secure themselves, the high point fibers and the continuous filament layer together to form an integral structure. The continuous filament provide strength to the coversheet material while the high melt point fibers in the fibrous web provide compatability with core materials used in a multi-layered board. This compatability permits the high melt point fibers to bond to the core material.

Coversheet material

A disposable diaper comprising, a fluid impervious back sheet, a fluid pervious front sheet, a first absorbent pad adjacent the front sheet and comprising a loosely formed fibrous mass, and a separate second absorbent pad between the first pad and the back sheet, with the second pad comprising a mass of fibers having compressed regions extending throughout a substantial part of the second pad and having relatively uncompressed areas adjacent the regions, with the regions being spaced from opposed side edges of the second pad.

Disposable diaper

A composite substrate for use as a coversheet on disposable articles such as disposable diapers, sanitary napkins, disposable bed pads, nursing pads, finger dressings, and incontinent diapers, or the like. The cover sheet comprises an inner layer of polyethylene thermoplastic film secured to and between the inner surfaces of a top layer and a bottom layer of nonwoven polypropylene fibrous webs, by means of a pair of, one of which being a heated embossed roll applied to at least one of the outer surfaces of the fibrous web. The heat from the heated roll causes the film to melt in discrete areas forming apertures therein without substantially affecting the fibrous webs. As the film melts, it contacts fibers in the substantially unaffected adjacent fibrous web layers, causing the film and webs to be secured to each other at least at the peripheral edges of the discrete apertured areas, leaving a matrix of fibers covering the apertured areas.

Composite substrate

A disposable product, such as a diaper, sanitary napkin or underpad, provided with a water impervious lower layer, an absorbent pad and a top sheet. The top sheet contains 0.1 to 0.6% by weight of a surfactant. The surfactant may be applied by spraying, printing, roller coating, etc., on the entire surface or, preferably, in limited areas such as in the central areas of the top sheet, or pay be line or spot printed thereon to improve fluid penetration, while retaining optimum fluid wetback and fluid retention characteristics. The top sheet is a hydrophobic sheet of excellent fluid penetration but resists fluid wetback.

Disposable diaper with improved top sheet

A disposable diaper having elasticized crotch seals and an elasticized waist seal formed from elastic members secured to the backing sheet. The elastic members physically intersect each other and are under such tension so as to provide an initial stretching of the elastic members extending substantially at right angles to each other thereby maximizing the comfort of an infant wearing the disposable diaper while maintaining a boat-like shape before application on an infant with the ears in a raised position. The elastic members may be spaced from the edge of the pad or may overlie the front or back surface of the pad to minimize leakage.

An absorbent article for placement against a wearer to capture body fluids comprising, an absorbent pad comprising a mass of fibers, and particles of plastic material fused to fibers in the pad to increase the integrity and resiliency of the fibrous mass. The article has sheet means covering a front and back surface of the pad.

Absorbent article

An absorbent article comprising, a fluid pervious top sheet, a backing sheet of fluid impervious material, and an absorbent pad intermediate the top and backing sheets. The pad has a fluid receiving region adjacent a central portion of the pad and a hydrocolloid material at a location spaced from the fluid receiving region, with the fluid receiving region being substantially free of the hydrocolloid material.

An absorbent article comprising an absorbent pad having a front surface, a fluid pervious top sheet covering at least a portion of the front surface of the pad, and a perforated film of thermoplastic material intermediate the sheet and pad. The film is heated to enlarge the perforations and fuse the film to the sheet and pad.

Method of making an absorbent article

A disposable diaper comprising, an absorbent pad assembly having opposed surfaces, and at least one side edge. The diaper has a tape fastener comprising a folded tape strip having opposed front and back surfaces, first and second sections, and a connecting section intermediate the first and second sections. The first section is attached to a surface of the pad assembly adjacent the side edge, and the second section has adhesive on a surface releasably attached to one of the first and connecting sections.
