In a general aspect, a magnetic resonance system is operated. In some examples, an amplifier circuit for a magnetic resonance system includes first and second switch devices, a high-power amplifier (HPA) device, and a power combiner device. The first switch device includes an input port and two output ports. The HPA device includes an HPA input port and an HPA output port. The HPA input port is coupled to a first output port of the first switch device. The second switch device includes input and output ports. The power combiner device includes two input ports and an output port. A first input port of the power combiner device is coupled to the output port of the second switch device. A second input port of the power combiner device is coupled to the second output port of the first switch device along a path that bypasses the HPA device.

Operating circuitry in a magnetic resonance system

In a general aspect, a sample holder has multiple sample containers. In some instances, the sample holder can be received into a resonator package in a primary magnetic field of a magnetic resonance system. The resonator package includes a resonator configured to interact with a sample in a sample region. The sample holder includes a first sample and a calibration sample. The position of the sample holder relative to the resonator is calibrated. After calibrating the position of the sample holder, the sample holder is translated to position the first sample in the sample region. Magnetic resonance data is acquired based on magnetic resonance signals generated by an interaction between the resonator and the first sample.

Changing samples in a magnetic resonance system

In some aspects, a resonator device includes a dielectric substrate, a ground plane on a first side of the substrate, and conductors on a second, opposite side of the substrate. The conductors include first and second resonators and two baluns. Each balun includes a feed, a first branch and a second branch. The feed is connected to the first and second branches, and the first and second branches are capacitively coupled to the respective first and second resonators. The first branch includes a delay line configured to produce a phase shift relative to the second branch. The resonator device includes a sample region configured to support a magnetic resonance sample between the first and second resonators.

Shifting phase in a resonator device for magnetic resonance

In some aspects, a resonator device for magnetic resonance applications is described. In some examples, the resonator device includes a resonator body that includes a periodic arrangement of cells about a central interior region. Each cell includes a dielectric substrate and a conductor disposed on the dielectric substrate. The periodic arrangement of the cells defines a periodic network of inductive and capacitive elements adapted to produce a magnetic field in the central interior region. The cells can be arranged according to various topologies that form various capacitive and inductive schemes. In some implementations, a dielectric substrate and thin superconductor are used, and the resonator device exhibits a high quality factor (Q) and low losses.

In some aspects, a resonator device for spin resonance applications is described. In some examples, the resonator device includes a substrate, terminals, and resonators. The terminals include a first terminal having first terminal segments disposed on a substrate surface, and a second terminal having second terminal segments disposed on the substrate surface opposite the first terminal segments. The resonators include conductors disposed on the substrate surface between the first and second terminals. Each conductor is disposed between one of the first terminal segments and a respective, opposite one of the second terminal segments.
