Water coatable and water developable negative-acting color proofing single sheet and overlay systems are described. The water-soluble photosensitive color layer employed in each type of proofing construction includes a photopolymerizable polymer having a weight-average molecular weight between 5,000 and 100,000; an alkaline soluble resin having a weight-average molecular weight between 1,000 and 200,000 and an acid number between 50 and 300; and a water-soluble photoinitiator.

This invention is a surface modifying element comprising a photosensitive layer on one side of a carrier substrate. The photosensitive layer comprises a photosensitive binder material and particulates. The invention is also a method of using the surface modifying element to create a receiver having imagewise variation in glossiness.

Providing imagewise variation in glossiness to a receptor

A process for forming a color proofing image by thermal transfer systems and an improved thermal transfer receptor sheet are described. The receptor sheet has a hot melt adhesive layer with one quarter percent or less of particles therein. In the thermal transfer process, both the image and a thermal transfer receptor layer are transferred to a second receptor surface.

Thermal receptor sheet and process of use

Most prepress color proofing systems require the use of special receptor sheets. The differences between the special sheets and the final print sheet can affect the desired color balance. The use of a proof image on a temporary transfer sheet, with an adhesive layer between the image and a final receptor layer, enables the use of essentially any printing stock or printing surface as the final proofing image substrate.
