A demodulation unit for recovering a transmitted symbol from a received signal that has been modulated using an MDPSK modulation scheme is described. The demodulation unit is configured to, for a current time instant, derive a current sample of a phase signal indicative of a phase of the received signal. Furthermore, the demodulation unit is configured to determine a set of discrimination signals for the current sample of the phase signal, based on the current sample of the phase signal and based on one or more previous samples of the phase signal for one or more previous time instants. In addition, the demodulation unit is configured to determine the transmitted symbol for the current time instant based on the set of discrimination signals.

Demodulation unit and method for demodulating a DPSK signal

The present document relates to a Viterbi-based GFSK (Gaussian frequency-shift keying) demodulator that supports different modulation index ranges. In particular, the present document relates to a circuit and a corresponding method for demodulating a base band signal. For example, the base band signal may have an in-phase component and a quadrature component. The method includes determining a phase-modulated signal based on the base band signal. The method includes determining a scaled phase signal by scaling the phase-modulated signal using a scaling factor. The method includes determining discrimination signals based on the scaled phase signal using a periodic discrimination function. The method includes applying a Viterbi algorithm to the discrimination signals for determining an output signal.

What is described is an Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag configured for communicating with an Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) reader, wherein the RFID tag is configured to receive a query command from the RFID reader, to measure a duration of a TRcal signal comprised by the query command, and to determine an individual Backscatter Link Frequency for communicating with the RFID reader based on the measured duration of the TRcal signal. The invention also refers to an RFID reader and to a corresponding method.

An RFID reader includes a transmitter, a receiver, and an evaluator. The receiver receives signals from RFID tags within a given number of slots of a time frame with a given frame size and provides a number of successful slots and a number of collided slots. The evaluator sets a modified frame size based on an estimated number of RFID tags which is determined based on the frame size, the number of successful slots, and the number of collided slots. The invention also refers to a corresponding method.

RFID reader and method for recognizing RFID tags

Embodiments provide an RFID reader. The RFID reader includes a collision detector, a decoder and a frame length adjuster. The collision detector is configured to detect for each slot of a plurality of slots of a current frame, in which a collision of signals transmitted by at least two RFID tags occurred, a signal property of a signal of the signals transmitted by at least two RFID tags. The decoder is configured to decode for the slot in which the collision is detected the signal of the signals transmitted by the at least two RFID tags using the detected signal property, wherein a collision recover probability describing a probability that the decoder can accurately decode the one signal depends on a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the current frame. The frame length adjuster is configured to adjust a frame length of a subsequent frame in dependence on the collision recover probability.

A reader for wirelessly receiving a signal from a tag, the signal having a portion on a first side, a portion on a second side and a synchronization sequence to be detected between the first and the second side, wherein the portion on the first side, the synchronization sequence and the portion on the second side are serially arranged with each other, has a processor. The processor is configured for storing the received signal, for detecting the synchronization sequence in the received signal, for calculating a transmission characteristic between the tag and the reader, using the portion of the received signal on the first side and for extracting a payload information from the portion of the received signal on the second side, using the calculated transmission characteristic.
