An access control system is disclosed in which a user or guest's first entry or usage of an electronic key is reported. Reporting of the first entry or usage may include information particular to the initial transaction and may be delivered by a path that is substantially the same, but reversed, from an original key delivery path. In this way, non-networked or 'offline' locks/readers can report first entry or usage of an electronic key.

Methods, systems, and devices for controlling access within a multi-facility room are provided. More specifically, a guest of the multi-room facility is allowed to remotely confirm reservations to the facility as well as bypass the front desk of the multi-room for check-in purposes. At a location within the facility, the guest is allowed to confirm their arrival, check-in, and have their access credential written with personalized access data that may be useable for the duration of the guest's stay.

The check-in station is a stand alone, vertically-oriented unit which generates key cards. The unit employs a touch screen connected to a processor and a card encoding unit. The touch screen, processor and card encoding unit are arranged in the unit so as to provide a compacted, user friendly machine.

A lock system, comprising at least one off-line lock and at least one key, e.g. as a key card with encoded data, said lock including an electro/mechanical locking mechanism which can be affected by the key, and a key reader enabled to read the encoded data on the key, memorize said data and compare these data with data stored in the key reader for the purpose of, depending of certain comparable data, affecting the locking mechanism. The data used in the system comprise user identification, lock identification, valid time window and also override criteria e.g. time related criteria for invalidating prior used keys.
