An elliptical portion having planform cross-section involving a generally circular configuration and an elevational cross-section having at least a partial elliptical configuration; a conical portion having at least one of a conical configuration and a frustoconical configuration, the conical portion coupled with the elliptical portion; and a modifier feed, the modifier feed having a first feed element and a second feed element, whereby the antenna apparatus is configured to perform as a monopole antenna at a low frequency and as a hybrid monopole-biconical antenna at a high frequency.

Elliptical conical antenna apparatus and methods

An omni-directional antenna can include a feed disk, which can terminate at a feed disk apex, and a top element, which can include a nipple that terminates a top element apex. The feed disk and top element can be positioned so that the feed disk apex and the top element apex can be spaced-apart by a distance 'd', which can be chosen according to the desired frequency range and cable feed impedance. The feed disk and top element can also have respective bottom conical and top conical surfaces. When the feed disk and top element are positioned, the top and bottom conical surfaces can establish a respective first predefined angle relative to a horizontal plane and a second predefined angle relative to the horizontal plane, thereby extending the antenna frequency range. The predefined angles can be chosen according to the desired frequency range of operation and cable feed impedance.

Omni-directional antenna with extended frequency range

An apparatus includes first and second antenna elements each having a tapered width end, with the tapered width ends being separated by a gap. A portion of the edge of the tapered width end of the each antenna element has a thickness less than a thickness of the remainder of the respective antenna element. Such portion may be the portion of the edge of the antenna elements closest to a feed point of the antenna elements, and may be angled to a point or a flat edge. The thickness of the tapered width ends increases along the width and/or the height of the respective antenna element as the antenna element extends from the feed point.

A system may include a base portion, first and second support members coupled to the base portion, a first plurality of tapered slot antenna (TSA) pairs coupled to the first support member, and a second plurality of TSA pairs coupled to the second support member. The first plurality TSA pairs are oriented at a non-zero angle about a first axis of the first support member and are oriented at a non-zero angle about a second axis of the first support member, with the second axis being perpendicular to the first axis. The second plurality TSA pairs are oriented at a non-zero angle about a first axis of the second support member and are oriented at a non-zero angle about a second axis of the second support member, with the second axis being perpendicular to the first axis.

Tapered slot antenna hemispherical array

A broadband antenna can include a parabolic dish having a diameter D and a radius of curvature that establishes a focal point for the parabolic dish. A tapered slot feed having a feed point can be positioned above the parabolic dish so that its effective radiation point is spaced a distance F from the center of the dish, where F is the focal length of the dish. With this configuration, feed point for the tapered slot feed can be coincident with parabolic dish focal point. The tapered slot feed can include two elements that form an exponentially tapered slot, which establishes a phase center for the tapered slot feed. A conductive bar can interconnect the two elements, in order to minimize the phase center variation during broadband operation.

A spiral antenna apparatus utilizes a noise suppression sheet that is interposed between the spiral antenna element and its ground plane. The noise suppression sheet permits an extremely compact spiral antenna apparatus while lessening antenna performance degradation.

A system and method are provided for conditioning a received signal prior to transmission. The signal is separated into different signal components in respective contiguous frequency channels. Each signal component is routed through either time domain or frequency domain processing circuitry and simultaneously a sample of the signal component is routed through control signal generation circuitry. The time domain processing circuitry contains a delay such that if any portion of the signal component exceeds a reference voltage signal, a switch is opened using a control signal generated by the control signal generation circuitry to blank that portion of the signal for that particular frequency channel. The outputs of each frequency channel are then combined into an output signal for transmission. A processor may be used to automatically configure various components within the time domain and frequency domain processing circuitry to prevent excessive power signals from being transmitted.

Radio frequency conditioning unit

A compact, broadband, aerodynamically streamlined, mechanically rugged antenna for aircraft and other applications has been developed that has a VSWR of 2:1 or better, and has uniform patterns with no nulls over a wide 8:1 bandwidth from 225 MHz to 1.85 GHz. The antenna has an aerodynamically streamlined shape, with a rugged housing capable of withstanding velocities up to Mach 2. In addition to its usage on aircraft, this antenna would be useful in a wide range of applications as a general purpose, wide bandwidth omnidirectional antenna. The antenna achieves its performance capabilities with the use of a double Vivaldi element feed section, an upper extension made of resistive film or R-card, and a shaped boundary between the feed and upper sections of the radiating elements.

Wideband aircraft antenna with extended frequency range

A compact, omnidirectional, broadband biconical antenna is described, having a first segment with its tip coincident with a horizontal plane, with an elevation angle between 23 degrees and 30 degrees from the horizontal plane; an open second segment joined to a distal end of the first segment, an elevation angle approximately 30 degrees greater than the first segment angle; an open third segment joined to a distal end of the open second segment, an elevation angle approximately 30 degrees greater than the open second segment angle; an open fourth resistive film segment joined to a distal end of the open third segment, an elevation angle approximately equal to the open third segment angle, wherein the segments are mirrored to form a biconical antenna; and a transmission line coupled to the tip of the first segment, interior to the first segment.

Broadband, small profile, omnidirectional antenna with extended low frequency range

An antenna includes a support structure and radiating element. The radiating element includes a dielectric planar substrate having a first and a second surface, at least two conductive spiral arms extending outward from and spiraling about an axis of rotation formed on the first surface, and a feed conductor extending outward from and spiraling about an axis of rotation formed on the second surface. The feed conductor may be substantially aligned with one of the conductive spiral arms. When the support structure is placed upon a substantially planar surface, the radiating element is positioned at height h from the planar surface, wherein height h is about one-fourth the wavelength of the antenna's operating frequency. The antenna may produce an omni-directional antenna pattern in azimuth and a broad antenna pattern in elevation, with both patterns having nulls near the horizon. An external reflector may be operatively coupled to the antenna.

The apparatus includes a tapered slot antenna having a length and a height, and having an aspect ratio less than or equal to 1 to 2.16. The tapered slot antenna includes a first antenna element comprising conductive material and configured to receive and transmit RF signals; and a second antenna element comprising conductive material, operatively coupled to said first antenna element, configured to receive and transmit RF signals.

The apparatus includes a tapered slot antenna having a length and a height, and having an aspect ratio greater than or equal to 2.5.
