A method performed by an Application Server (AS) node PCRM-AS for assisting a UE in restoring an association between an Internet protocol Multimedia Subsystem, IMS, node, and the UE via one or more first intermediate proxy nodes in a communications network is provided. When the AS node receives from the UE, a first registration relating to the association, monitor said association. The first registration registers the UE to an IMS network. The first registration comprises an identity identifying the UE and a Push Notification Service (PNS) node serving the UE. When any of the intermediate proxy nodes in the monitored association becomes unavailable, the AS node sends an instruction to the identified PNS node. The instruction instructs the PNS node to send a notification to the identified UE. The notification triggers the UE to restore the association between the IMS node and the UE via one or more available second intermediate proxy nodes.

Application server node, user equipment and methods in a communications network

A method and a wireless device having a first Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) of a first subscription and a second SIM of a second subscription, for handling communications. The device establishes an internet connection with the second subscription when the first SIM and the first subscription are active in an ongoing communication. A notification is then received by the device over said internet connection indicating that an incoming communication directed to the second SIM has been received by the second subscription. Thereby, a user of the device is made aware of the incoming communication without requiring a forwarding function from the second subscription to the first subscription.

Method and wireless device for handling communications using dual SIMs

When a user equipment is roaming in a visited network, mid-call handover from VoWiFi to VoLTE is controlled by policies enforced in the user equipment and the home network. An inter-operator policy and a subscription policy are stored in the home network and a user equipment policy is stored in the user equipment. The roaming user equipment registers in a visited network. Later, when mid-call handover to VoLTE on the visited network is desired, and also permitted by its user equipment policy, the user equipment sends a request containing a call-specific identifier which the responsible network entity in the home network compares with the registered handover parameter having regard to the inter-operator and subscription policies. If compliance with the policies is found, then the mid-call handover is proceeded with.

Managing user equipment roaming status changes in a radio access network

The invention provides an apparatus and method of associating communication service sessions with geographical locations. Each of a multiplicity of user devices, attached to one or more access networks via respective access points, can determine the identity of an access point serving that particular user device. The user device then registers with a location service, via the access network, both the network access point identity and a geographical address at which the access point is located. The location service can then use the registered access point identity and geographical address to register the user device, or another user device, in a communication service in association with said geographical address. In this way, the geographical address of a registered user device, which is associated with a particular communication service session, can be determine.

Establishing the location of unmanaged network access points

A method of determining in an IP multimedia subsystem, IMS, network which radio access type, RAT, should be used to route a terminating session directed towards a user equipment, UE. The HSS receives a terminating access domain selection, T-ADS, query from an application server, AS, of the IMS network, the T-ADS query relating to the terminating session and identifying the UE; and determines whether a packet data network gateway, PDN-GW, is registered for the UE. In the case where a PDN-GW is registered, the HSS sends a RAT request towards the PDN-GW, the RAT request identifying the UE and requesting a RAT used by the UE to connect to the IMS network. The PDN-GW determines the RAT and sends the result towards the HSS, which sends a T-ADS response to the AS indicating the RAT. In the case where a PDN-GW is not registered, the HSS sends a T-ADS response to the AS indicating that the RAT is a circuit switched RAT. Apparatus for implementing the method are also provided.

Enhancements to terminating access domain selection

Apparatus configured to operate as a WAC of a WAN. The apparatus comprises a database unit, a transceiver, and a resource request processor. The database unit maintains a database of a plurality of user equipment (UEs) connected to the WAN, resource usage by each of the UEs, and available resources of the WAN. The transceiver communicates with a gateway between the WAN and a telecommunications network. The resource request processor receives a resource request from the gateway, the resource request identifying a UE and indicating a required change in resource usage; and determines whether the required change in resource usage is possible based on the available resources of the WAN. If the required change in resource usage is possible, the resource request processor updates database records for resource usage by the UE and available resources of the WAN and sends a resource response to the gateway.

Controlling wireless local area network access

One aspect includes a method of operating a user terminal adapted for wireless telecommunications using any of a plurality of different radio access technologies including a Circuit Switched, CS, access and a Packet Switched, PS access. The PS access includes access via a Long Term Evolution, LTE, network and WiFi access via a Wireless Local Area Network, WLAN. The method includes: (i) making a determination to switch from a PS LTE access to a WiFi access, (ii) switching to WiFi access, and (iii) ignoring or rejecting a command received to hand over to a CS access. Other aspects include a user terminal, a telecommunications network entity, and a method of operating a telecommunications network entity.

Resolving competing handover conditions in wireless networks

A method of initiating the provisioning of subscriber data in at least a Home Subscriber Server of an IP Multimedia Subsystem network. The method comprises receiving an authentication request or Session Initiation Protocol message in respect of a given subscriber who is making use of a user terminal to access the IP Multimedia Subsystem network. If it is determined that subscriber data is not currently provisioned for the subscriber in a Home Subscriber Server function or receiving such a determination, the following steps are performed: 1) causing a first notification to be sent to the user terminal indicating that the registration attempt is rejected, and 2) sending a second notification to a subscriber provisioning system informing the provisioning system of the registration attempt.

Methods and apparatuses for initiating provisioning of subscriber data in a HSS of an IP multimedia subsystem network

A method and apparatus for handling a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) OPTIONS capability query message in a communication network. A SIP proxy node receives a SIP OPTIONS message from a querying node. It sends the message to a plurality of devices, and receives a response from at least two of the plurality of devices. Each response includes an identity of the responding device and an indication of the capabilities of the responding device. Each received response is stored in a memory, and a reply message is generated. The reply message includes the identities and capabilities of all of the responding devices. This reply message is then sent to the querying node. This allows the querying node to receive capability information relating to all of the callee's devices rather than just the one that responds first.

Capability query handling in a communication network

A method and apparatus at an apparatus for handling an incoming call () originating from an anonymous calling party() where the anonymous calling party calling party() can be identified on the basis of a personal identity assigned to the anonymous calling party(), wherein the personal identity is assignable to the anonymous calling party() after a personal identity has been assigned to the anonymous calling party in response to a manually or automatically initiated assignment instruction, but without requiring any interaction from the anonymous calling party(). The suggested method and apparatus are applicable in any type of wireless or fixed communications network which enables a calling party to register as an anonymous calling party.

Method and apparatus for handling anonymous calls

The present invention relates to system nodes/entities and methods for enabling determination of the location of an attached User Equipment in a tunneled IP network. The User Equipment location can be determined by means of procedures maintained in a Location Function (LF). An application function can retrieve the User Equipment location by querying the Location Function by using the second source address as a key.
