A multiple-point basket-type or crown-shaped catheter device provides simultaneously mapping over a three-dimensional (3D) region of a subject, such as, one or more chambers of a subject's heart. The catheter device may include a series of splines each having a wave-like profile formed of a periodic series of peaks and troughs, with electrodes located at the peaks and troughs for mapping purposes.

Method and system for mapping and analyzing cardiac electrical activity

An ingestible gastric volume reduction device () is provided that is controllably adjustable between an expanded state and a contracted state. A control subsystem within the device is able to selectively transition the device between both states. Such control can be by way of a biological or chemical sensor () in the device, a wireless (RF) receiver (), or timer. Thus activation of the device whether to expand and fill a gastric volume or to contract to open up the gastric volume may be achieved from internal control (within device) or external control (to the device). The device may be used for patient treatment, by administering the device (e.g., through ingestion) to a gastric region and then controllably increasing and/or decreasing the volume of the device during treatment.

Device and system for gastric volume reduction to facilitate weight loss

Devices, systems and methods are disclosed for the ablation of tissue. A steerable ablation catheter can include one or more ablation elements at its distal end and one or more ablation elements fixedly attached to its shaft. The distal end of the ablation catheter can be deflected to assume a number of different deflection geometries in at least one direction along the shaft. One feature of the ablation catheter is that its shaft can comprise materials of differing durometers or stiffnesses attached together at a joint. Methods associated with use of the ablation catheter are also covered.

RF energy delivery system and method

An atrial fibrillation classification system collects celectrocardiogram signals and converts them to a frequency, time, or phase domain representation for analysis. An evaluation stage extracts energy density profile over a range of frequencies, time intervals, or phases, which is then summed and normalized to form dispersion metrics. The system then analyzes the dispersion metrics, in their respective domains, to determine whether a patient is experiencing an arrhythmia and then to classify the type of arrhythmia being experienced.

Atrial fibrillation classification using power measurement

A left atrial appendage occlusion device is provided that acts in conjunction with a wireless transponder unit. The occlusion device provides a seal of the left atrial appendage opening, while the transponder is inserted into the left atrial appendage to sense one or more physiological conditions and relay the sensed information over wireless communication. Further, all or part of the left atrial appendage may be filled using a biocompatible inert filling material injected into the left atrial appendage as part of deployment of the transponder unit.

Multimodality left atrial appendage occlusion device

An atrial ablation catheter with an electrode array particularly adapted to locate and ablate foci of arrhythmia which are required for sustained atrial fibrillation is provided. The array is easily deployed and retracted from the catheter, and presents a proximally oriented electrode array that can be pulled against the septal wall of the left atrium to engage the septal wall.

An infrared fiber-optic device is able to monitor esophageal temperature during an ablation/cryoablation procedure over a volume of interest to sense whether the temperature is too high or too low. The device may include a plurality of optical fibers each with a wide angle lens collectively disposed circumferentially and longitudinally to cover the volume of interest, as the particular region over which undesirable temperature may not be known beforehand. In other examples, the device may include an embedded array of infrared sensors extending sufficiently to encompass a volume of interest. The device may be used as part of a feedback control to regulate and stop operation of the ablation/cryoablation procedure to prevent vessel damage.

Non-contact infrared fiber-optic device for measuring temperature in a vessel

Devices, systems and methods are disclosed for the ablation of tissue. Embodiments include an ablation catheter that has an array of ablation elements attached to a deployable carrier assembly. The carrier assembly can be constrained within the lumen of a catheter, and deployed to take on an expanded condition. The carrier assembly includes multiple electrodes that are configured to ablate tissue at low power. Systems include an interface unit with a visual display that provides a visual representation of the geometry of the ablation elements and/or provides selection means for selecting an icon provided on the display.

User interface for tissue ablation system

An ablation therapy system and systematic method is provided for treating continuous atrial fibrillation. The therapy system includes a Multi-Channel RF Ablation Generator, an ECG interface, an assembly of at least three ablation catheters, and an ECG interface operably coupling and interfacing the catheters to both an ECG unit and the RF Ablation Generator. The systematic method includes transseptally accessing the Left Atrium (LA) through the septum of the patient's heart, and performing an endocardial pulmonary vein ablation procedure on the pulmonary vein ostial tissue surrounding one or more pulmonary veins in a manner treating aberrant conductive pathways therethrough. After performing the pulmonary vein ablation, the method further includes performing an endocardial atrial septum ablation procedure on the septal tissue in a manner treating aberrant conductive pathways therethrough.

Ablation therapy system and method for treating continuous atrial fibrillation

The present invention relates generally to multifunctional catheters for performing ablation procedures, and more particularly to ablation catheters utilized in the treatment of atrial fibrillation and other cardiac disorders. The present invention eliminates many of the problems associated with previous ablation catheters by providing an ablation treatment not dependent upon continuous lesions.
