A self-adhesive layered septum is disclosed. In one example, the septum includes a first outer layer including a thermoplastic elastomer such as a styrenic block copolymer, containing styrene ethylene butylene styrene (TPE-SEBS) capable of closing at least partially an aperture formed when a needle is inserted through the layer; an adhesive second layer for adhering the septum to a mouth area of a well or container to which the septum is attachable; and a thermoplastic third layer between the first and second layers, thermobonded to the first layer and providing better adherence for the adhesive layer. The first layer includes a recess and a vent, which reduce pressure differentials in use, but together with the third layer minimize evaporation through the septum.

A method of screening a plurality of fluid samples for the presence of species capable of specifically binding to a binding partner immobilized on a sensing surface of a sensor is disclosed. The method comprises contacting each sample with the sensing surface and a reference surface, and subjecting the sensing surface responses obtained for all samples to a computational process which comprises fitting al responses to a model equation for the relationship between a response at the sensing surface and the corresponding response at the reference surface. In an iterative process residuals above a pre-determined threshold value are removed, the model equation is adjusted, and all remaining samples are refitted to the adjusted model equation until the model equation at least substantially converges. Residuals above the predetermined threshold value are considered as species specifically binding to the binding partner. The method may be computer-implemented, and a computer program product therefore comprises instructions for causing a computer to perform the computational process.

Screening method

A system and method for generating a digital image in fluorescence gel imaging is disclosed. The method includes providing a gel sample and placing the gel sample on a flat panel detector having array of photodiodes and transistors that collect light generated from the gel sample. The gel sample is illuminated using a light source integrated into the flat panel imaging system and light emitted by the gel sample responsive to an excitation of the gel sample by light provided by the light source is then collected, with the light emitted by the gel sample being collected by the array of photodiodes of the flat panel detector and converted to electric charges to generate light data. The light data is then processed to generate a digital image of the gel sample.

Systems and methods for reversibly and controllably flowing a first and second fluid adjacent to one or more discrete sensing surfaces of a biosensor are disclosed herein. The systems utilize a flow-cell conduit adapted to flow the first and second fluids in either a first or second flow direction and in a manner such that the first and second fluids separately contact the one or more discrete sensing surfaces of the biosensor. The flow-cell conduit is operatively connected to both a two-fluid conduit and a single-fluid conduit via a valveless juncture. The system also comprises a selector valve for reversing the flow direction of the fluid within the flow-cell conduit.
