An optical device for implementing passive alignment of parts and a method therefor, more particularly an optical device and a method therefor that utilize an alignment reference part arranged on the substrate to passively align an optical element part with a lens-optical fiber connection part. For the passive alignment of parts, connection pillars of an alignment reference part are coupled to substrate holes, one or more light-emitting elements and one or more light-receiving elements are aligned in a row in a particular interval with respect to alignment holes arranged opposite each other in the alignment reference part, a lens-optical fiber connection part is aligned with respect to the alignment holes, and an optical fiber is aligned with the optical alignment point at a surface of a prism forming a portion of the lens-optical fiber connection part.

Optical transmission and receiving device for implementing passive alignment of components and method for passively aligning components

An optical device for implementing passive alignment of parts and a method therefore, more particularly an optical device and a method therefore that utilize an alignment reference partarranged on the substrateto passively align an optical element partwith a lens-optical fiber connection part. For the passive alignment of parts, connection pillarsof an alignment reference partare coupled to substrate holes, one or more light-emitting elementsand one or more light-receiving elementsare aligned in a row in a particular interval with respect to alignment holesarranged opposite each other in the alignment reference part, a lens-optical fiber connection partis aligned with respect to the alignment holes, and an optical fiberis aligned with the optical alignment point at a surfaceof a prism forming a portion of the lens-optical fiber connection part. In addition, the optical fiberis secured with an optical fiber pin, after which a metal caseis covered and coupled with a case securing pin. The optical device for implementing passive alignment of parts provides the advantages of simplifying the passive optical alignment for multiple channels, so as to minimize alignment error, and of reducing and simplifying the structure of the optical modules and minimizing the number of parts used, so as to lower the costs of the optical modules.

A subassembly for passive optical alignment includes a substrate, an alignment device on the substrate having a plurality of alignment holes, and an optical element aligned on the substrate with the alignment holes. A first lens device including a first lens on the alignment device aligns the first lens with the optical element to collimate light emitted from the optical element. A second lens device including a second lens collects the light from the first lens. A receptacle has a ferrule alignment hole penetrating the receptacle. A side of the receptacle is assembled on the second lens device to align the ferrule alignment hole with the second lens. The receptacle is assembled on the alignment device to align the second lens with the first lens. The ferrule alignment hole extends to a connector insertion hole formed on an opposite side of the receptacle that secures an external optical connector.
