Intake and exhaust cam shafts are disposed a cylinder head in a vertical direction. The cylinder head comprises a first through hole and a second through hole. The first through hole penetrates an upper surface deck from a deck surface towards a lower surface of the cylinder head. The deck surface is a surface constituting an upper surface deck of the cylinder head. The second through hole opens to a side surface of the cylinder head in which cam pulleys of intake and exhaust cam shafts are provided. The second through hole penetrates the upper surface deck along an axial direction of the intake and exhaust cam shafts. The second through hole is positioned vertically below an opening in the deck surface of the first through hole.

Internal combustion engine

A water jacket structure includes: a lower water jacket that is provided inside a cylinder head installed at the top of a cylinder block; and an upper water jacket that communicates with the lower water jacket, and is provided on a side away from the cylinder block than the lower water jacket; wherein the lower water jacket includes, for each space between cylinders: a communication flow passage that communicates with the upper water jacket; and a reinforcing post formation part on which a reinforcing post is installed; wherein the reinforcing post formation part is located on a downstream side in a flowing direction of cooling water along a cylinder arrangement direction than the communication flow passage.

Water jacket structure

An engine includes a cylinder pressure sensor inserted into a through-hole of a cylinder head. A sealing member that seals between a hole wall surface and a body-side wall surface. A dimension relationship of D&#x3c;D&#xd7;(D/D) is satisfied where: Dis a distance in a direction of a central axis from a reference position of the sealing member to a first given position; Dis a distance between the hole wall surface and the body-side wall surface at the first given position; Dis a distance in the direction of the central axis from the reference position to a second given position; and Dis a distance between the hole wall surface and the body-side wall surface at the second given position.

An intake port of an internal combustion engine is connected to a combustion chamber and includes a connecting portion having a passage cross-sectional area that increases as the connecting portion approaches the combustion chamber, and an upstream portion connected to an upstream end of the connecting portion. The connecting portion is provided at its downstream end with a valve seat with which an umbrella part of an intake valve is brought into contact. At least one recess extending in an extending direction of the intake port and included in the connecting portion and the upstream portion is provided at least at one of two portions, the two portions located on both sides in an extending direction of an output shaft, of a peripheral surface of the intake port.

An internal combustion engine includes a cylinder head including an intake port, an exhaust port, a water jacket, an intake valve, an exhaust valve, an intake valve seat, and an exhaust valve seat. The water jacket is positioned between the intake port and the exhaust port. The intake valve includes an intake valve head, and the exhaust valve includes an exhaust valve head. The intake valve contacts an intake valve seat surface of the intake valve seat. The exhaust valve head contacts an exhaust valve seat surface of the exhaust valve seat. The shortest distance between the water jacket and the intake valve seat surface is shorter than the shortest distance between the water jacket and the exhaust valve seat surface.

The influenced of condensed water on an EGR device is alleviated. A device () that controls a cooling system including adjusting means for being able to adjust a circulation amount of coolant in a first flow passage, including an engine cooling flow passage, an EGR cooling flow passage and a radiator flow passage, and a second flow passage, including the engine cooling flow passage, the EGR cooling flow passage and a bypass flow passage and not including the radiator flow passage, includes: measuring means for measuring a temperature of the coolant; limiting means for limiting circulation of the coolant at starting an internal combustion engine; and control means for circulating the coolant preferentially through the second flow passage via control over the adjusting means based on the measured temperature in a period in which circulation of the coolant is limited.

Control device for cooling system

One ends of an exhaust path communicate with a plurality of combustion chambers through exhaust ports, respectively, an assembling section is provided on the other ends of the exhaust path, and a turbo supercharger, an exhaust tube and an exhaust purification catalyst are connected to the assembling section, on the other hand, a bypass path communicating from the exhaust path to the exhaust tube and the exhaust purification catalyst by bypassing a turbo supercharger is provided and an exhaust control valve capable of opening and closing the bypass path is provided, and a bypass hole, which is a part of the bypass path, is provided in the cylinder head.
